The "Ryukyu Glass Village" has been established for 30 years. Not only can you learn about the history of Ryukyu glass, visit and experience handmade glass, and admire the masterpieces of glass craftsmen, you can also shop and dine here. The "Ryukyu Glass Village" facilities are filled with various installation art made of Ryukyu glass. Ryukyu glass was listed as a traditional craft of Okinawa Prefecture in 1998. Recently, Ryukyu glass works have also innovated modern styles, with a variety of themes such as space, rocks, and slates.
When signing up for the glass making experience, you can experience about 10 types of experience activities at any time, including making glass cups, crystal glue glass cups, handmade accessories, etc. You can choose your favorite color, whether there are bubbles, depth and length, etc. Since the temperature of the newly made glass cups is too hot, they need to be placed in a cooling kiln to cool down overnight and can only be shipped after the third day. Therefore, you must fill out the mailing form when you apply (free if you pick it up in person. 500 yen in Okinawa Prefecture, 1,500 yen outside Okinawa Prefecture. The glass blowing experience is available twice a day, morning and afternoon, starting at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Reservations should be made 15 minutes in advance. Only 20 people can be arranged to participate in the experience each time. If you want to participate, you should make a reservation early.
