A Nostalgic Culinary Experience at Restoran Hua Mui, Johor Bahru
Restoran Hua Mui, located in Johor Bahru (JB), Malaysia, is a renowned spot known for its classic Hainanese-style cuisine and nostalgic charm. Established in 1946, it has become a beloved destination for both locals and tourists. The restaurant captures an old-school vibe while offering a menu that combines Hainanese and Malaysian favorites.
One of their signature dishes, the Hainanese Chicken Chop, was a must-try for me. The chicken was grilled to perfection, featuring a charred exterior with tender meat, and topped with a rich, traditional brown sauce containing green peas, corn, mushrooms, and onions. It was served alongside a fresh salad and crispy potato wedges. I also added a side of white rice to complement the dish.
Additionally, I tried their kaya butter toast, which consists of lightly toasted Hainanese bread filled with a generous slab of salted butter and kaya in the center—a simple yet satisfying choice for breakfast.
