🏛️ Riga: The Art Nouveau Metropolis of the Baltics
🇱🇻 Welcome to Riga, the vibrant, cosmopolitan capital of Latvia and the largest city in the Baltics. This is a city of stunning architectural contrasts, where a charming medieval Hanseatic Old Town gives way to streets lined with the most magnificent collection of Art Nouveau architecture found anywhere in the world.
🎨 While the UNESCO-listed Old Town, with its cobblestone lanes and colourful merchant houses, is a fairytale in itself, it is the city's Art Nouveau district that truly sets it apart. Here you'll find entire streets of fantastical, ornate buildings adorned with elaborate sculptures, floral motifs, and dramatic, expressive faces.
🏰 Riga is a treasure trove for lovers of history, art, and architecture, offering a unique and sophisticated atmosphere that is both grand and captivatingly creative.
✅ Unmissable experiences in Riga:
* Explore the Art Nouveau District: Take a walk down Alberta Iela and Elizabetes Iela to be completely mesmerised by the sheer concentration and creativity of the Jugendstil architecture.
* Visit the House of the Black Heads: Admire the incredibly ornate, iconic facade of this reconstructed medieval guildhall in the heart of the Old Town Square.
* Wander Through Riga Central Market: Dive into local life at one of Europe's largest markets, uniquely housed in five enormous former Zeppelin hangars.
💡 Pro Tip:
For a true taste of Latvia, you must try the famous Riga Black Balsam. This traditional herbal liqueur has a unique, bittersweet taste. Sample it neat, mixed into a coffee, or in one of the many creative cocktails offered in the city's bars.
🏨 Hotel Recommendation:
For the ultimate 5-star experience, book a stay at the Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga. Located in a grand 19th-century building opposite the National Opera, it offers opulent rooms, a luxurious spa, and a prime location for exploring the Old Town.

🏖️Photogenic spots

🚇Transportation

📷Recommended photo locations
Everything in the old town is photogenic.
🍜Exquisite food
LIDO is cheap and delicious, so I highly recommend it.
Also, fish dishes generally suit the taste of Japanese people. I can eat mackerel and salmon without any problems.
🏠Recommended accommodation
I stayed at three accommodations this time, and none of them were bad. The breakfast was also great, and I think it was a better deal than in Japan.
💡Notes
You need to buy tickets in advance for the bus. You need to press a button to open the train, so if you arrive at the last minute, you may panic and not know where to go. Bolt, an Uber taxi that is also available in Japan, is convenient, but be prepared for some very rough driving. This is partly because it is a mission and there are many cobblestone roads, but older people should be careful. Some people didn't speak English. Most of the Central Market only accepts cash, so be careful.
💞Reasons why I recommend it: There are almost no Japanese people, but I felt it was a country similar to Japan. I was able to travel without feeling the unique dangerous smell that exists overseas. There is a large female population and many beautiful people, but it may seem a little cold. Credit cards are fine for over 90% of cases. (Cash is required at the Central Market.)
