📍Riverside Boutique Resort, Laos 🏩 What a wonderful place to stay in Vang Vieng! The location is amazing, breathtakingly beautiful, with views of the Song River and towering mountains in the distance. In the evening, we could watch the sunset over the beautiful mountains, as hot air balloons and paragliders soared over the stunning natural scenery. 😍🥰 The room was also superb, spacious, well-appointed, with comfortable beds and a spacious balcony with outdoor seating. They also have a large swimming pool, which is beautiful and a perfect place to watch the sunset and enjoy half-price cocktails during Happy Hour from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM daily. 👍🏻👍🏻 Another highlight is the excellent breakfast. The Restaurant du Crabe d'Or is a wonderful place, overlooking the pool, the Song River, and the mountains. We also had dinner there one night, and the food was excellent. However, the best part is the staff and the service we received. It’s a laid-back, hippie-style town with plenty of activities — you can even take a hot air balloon ride. There are many hiking trails and around 7–9 lagoons in the area. I visited Lagoons 1, 2, 3, and 4 where you can swim or just relax and sunbathe. I rented a motorbike from my hostel for 180,000 kip/day, while a friend rented one from outside for 170,000 kip. Lagoons: Lagoon 1: The most crowded one, especially with Korean tourists — likely due to a 2014 Korean travel show that featured it along with the nearby Sakura Bar. Mostly middle-aged tour groups. There's also a cave above the lagoon you can explore (around 200m in). Lagoon 2: Loses sunlight after 11:20 AM, so plan your visit earlier if you want to swim. Lagoon 3: Sun disappears around 11:30 AM. It has a younger, livelier crowd. There’s a cave here too — although the entrance looks narrow, it’s easy to navigate inside. Lagoon 4: A 30-minute motorbike ride away. Quiet, sunny all day, and not crowded. Near here is the Loup Cave, worth visiting if you have extra time. Tham Nam (Water Cave): One of the most unique cave experiences I had. You float inside the cave on a tube for around 300 meters. Near the end, the water actually starts to feel warmer. Viewpoints: Vang Vieng is full of scenic viewpoints. I climbed two mountains and visited three viewpoints in total, but there are 4–5 options around the town. Nam Xay Viewpoint: The most famous one. Many people go here to take photos with motorbikes at the top — sometimes you may have to wait in line for a picture. Phapoungkham Cave & Viewpoint: There are two viewpoints and one cave here. Be sure to bring a flashlight for any cave visits. Elevate 9: Perfect for watching sunset and hot air balloons. Surprisingly affordable despite its great view. Bars & Nightlife: Sakura Bar: The biggest and most popular — especially with Korean tourists. Irish Bar and Full Moon Bar are also lively spots worth checking out. Transportation: I traveled from Vang Vieng to Vientiane in 1.5 hours by minivan. The train takes even less — around 45 minutes to 1 hour. Unlike the rough roads in northern Laos, this route is a proper highway, so vehicles move fast. The minivan picked me up directly from my hostel and cost 140,000 kip.

Although it is a little difficult to access because there are no direct flights from Japan, Laos is a recommended country because the cost of living is low and the situation is stable. If you're brave enough, jump into the water from a 5-meter-high tree and feel the thrill of the plunge. Don't miss the cave at Blue Lagoon 1. Stepping into the cave is like entering a mystical world. The stalactites of various shapes, illuminated by lights, create a dreamlike wonderland. Take advantage of the light and shadows to capture stunning photos and preserve these beautiful moments📸. Lunch Local Cuisine After all the fun, it's time to recharge with some local delicacies. There are many small restaurants near Blue Lagoon 1. I highly recommend Lao-style bamboo rice🥥. Stepping into the cave evokes a sense of mystery. Further up, there's a fork in the road, one side leads to an airplane wreck, the other to a white horse statue. I chose the path to the airplane. From the airplane, you can overlook the entire beauty of Vang Vieng. Rolling mountains and scattered villages stretch out before your eyes, evoking a sense of accomplishment, like "reaching the summit and overlooking all the mountains." Phou Khao Khouay is also near Pha Ngern Viewpoint. According to the signs at the foot of the mountain, the climb to Phou Khao Khouay takes longer than Pha Ngern Viewpoint. Evening: Nam Song River Cruise At dusk, head to the Nam Song River and embark on a romantic boat trip. The setting sun casts a golden glow on the river, creating a shimmering spectacle. The gentle breeze brings a touch of coolness, leaving you refreshed and relaxed. Along the way, admire the idyllic scenery on both banks and experience the tranquility and peace of Vang Vieng. You can also see beautiful hot air balloons from the boat. Note that each boat can only accommodate two adults.
