Guatemala one of the most underrated country
I spent and amazing 2 weeks in Guatemala. We landed in the capital Guatemala City and only stayed a night there. This is the only capital I’ve ever come across with no positive comments even from the locals. Next morning we took a 45 mins taxi ride to Antigua. A charming colonial town and one of the most beautiful communities in Latin America. Stayed a few nights and from there went to the so called most beautiful lake in the world Lake Antigua. There are many different towns in Lake Antigua and each one has their own unique style but one thing all they have in common is the surrounded by the beautiful lake Atitlan and volcanos. We first did the easier hike to volcano pacaya which took around 3 hours. Rested a few days and challenged another volcanos which is rated as top 10 volcanos in the world, and the no7 most difficult volcano hikes. Volcano Acatenango. Our private tour which cost around 500q (60usd) per person started at 10pm and we finished at 11am. It was the most challenging thing I’ve ever done but once you get to the summit and see that sunrise everything felt worth it.
I highly recommend Guatemala.
I’m currently on a one year vacation in Latin America and already been in this continent for 8 months. Guatemala is my 9th country in Latin America and it’s definitely one of my favourite after Argentina #guatemala #antigua #lakeatitlan #Volcano
I’m here
Up up and up to Volcano Pacaya to watch sunset
Here I come Volcano #Pacaya. The magnificent view at the top (2552m) was worth the climb. The first part of the hike was pretty easy. When we arrived at the lava shop, everything changed. The hill is covered by dry lava and made it really difficult to walk. The guide showed us a ‘dried’ crater and there was steam coming out from another one nearby. It was really amazing. We tried to roast marshmallows but the steam wasn’t hot enough…😭 We continued our journey uphill and that was the real challenge, as it was covered by loose small lava ‘sand’ and the strong wind almost blew me away. The sun just said goodbye so quickly I only had a glimpsed of the sunset. Regardless, it’s still spectacular when I saw the clouds below me with a bottle of rum😜 Little did I know that the most challenging journey was the downhill hike, it was so steep and the loose lava ‘sands’ made it even worse, if I had a snow board, it would be so much easier to slide down! I was so happy when we finally arrived at the base and I was still in one piece! The whole hike was 6.7km and took us approx. four hours to complete, well, obviously I was taking my time!
