🌉 Kamakura Riverside Site Historical Site from the Edo Period Crossing the bridge leads to Kanda
💞Reason for recommendation: "It originates from the fact that stones from Kamakura were unloaded here during the construction of Edo Castle. In 1889 (Meiji 22), it became an official town name in Kanda Ward, and in 1935 (Showa 10), it was incorporated into Kamakura Town. As of 2019, it corresponds to Uchi-Kanda 1 and 2 Chome. It existed near the foot of Kanda Bridge on Hibiya Street in present-day Chiyoda Ward. The Nihonbashi River, where the riverside was located, connected the outer moat and the Sumida River, linking Edo's outer and inner ports. At that time, Kamakura Riverside was the closest unloading site to Edo Castle's main enclosure, so many goods were unloaded there, leading to the formation of a wholesale district. The adjacent town was named Kamakura Town, and the name "Kamakura Cho" was already recorded in the 1657 (Meireki 3) "New Edo Map." Currently, that area became part of Uchi-Kanda due to a town name change in 1966 (Showa 41)."
