Somdej Nang Phaya Ruean Kaew, Phitsanulok Province
Wat Nang Phaya, Phitsanulok
This temple has a popular amulet called
“Phra Nang Phaya”, one of the Benjaphakee amulets.
It is a clay amulet mixed with herbs and flower pollen. It shows gravel and sand mixed together. It is pressed into the amulet and then burned.
In addition to Phra Nang Phaya, which is an amulet, inside the temple’s ordination hall, there is also a principal Buddha image
“Somdet Nang Phaya Ruean Kaew”, a Sukhothai-style Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture, covered in lacquer and gold leaf. It is beautifully decorated with a glass pavilion.
It is believed that the consort of King Maha Thammaracha built this temple to honor Queen Wisutthikasat
(Phra Wisutthikasat was the mother of King Naresuan the Great).
