It took half an hour to reach the Bukit Cinta Sunrise Viewpoint to wait for the sunrise. The tour then continue to the Mount Bromo crater itself. Tourist may choose to walk but I chose to took a horseback ride through the sea of sand to reach the staircase leading to the crater. The climb to the crater involves a short but steep walk, followed by around 250 steps. The view from the top? I enjoyed every bit of this adventure - it was affordable, and the views were absolutely worth the hikes and early starts. Day 1: • Madakaripura Waterfall Stay: Bromo Terrace Hotel & Resto Eat: Bawangan Bromo Hotel & Resto Day 2: (started our day at 2.30am) • Sunrise point at King Kong Hill (only jeeps can access the roads there, and you get some cool pics as well) • Hike Mt. Bromo Stay: Urbanview B Syariah Lumajang Day 3: • Tumpaksewu Waterfall • Goa Tetes Cave Stay: ljen View Hotel & Resort Day 4: (started our day at 11.30pm the PREVIOUS day, slept at 6pm to make it to ljen before sunrise) • Hike Mt. Ijen - there's the option to hike down to see a naturally occuring blue fire, but there were too many people on that day, making the narrow path down quite dangerous. Getting There - Penang / KL direct Flight to Surabaya and engage a local tour guide Attractions - Stunning Sunrise, Aurora, Take photo with Jeep and volcano, horse Riding Bromo Itinerary: * Departure at 2 AM, ride a Jeep to embark on the Bromo adventure. * At 3:30 AM, arrive near Mount Prau, take a moment to rest at a coffee shop, and enjoy hot coffee and instant noodles. When visiting Indonesia, there will be a lot of photos. Personally, Indonesia is my favorite country since I have been there. It may not be the best place, but overall, it is the most complete because there are many and varied places to visit. Nature is as magnificent as anywhere else, with the sea, mountains, waterfalls, and cities. It is developed, with many shopping malls. The food is also delicious. The cost of living is not expensive. The travel is not far. The guides are very good. There will definitely be a next time. Highly recommend!!! For those who want to travel abroad, but due to various limitations that make it difficult to travel, we recommend Indonesia as the first country. But you have to be someone who likes nature. When I went to see Bromo from the viewpoint, it was not as amazing as I thought. Maybe because I had seen the mountains in Nepal. But when I actually arrived at Bromo, it gave me a different feeling. It felt like I was not on earth and these people were queuing up to get on a ship. It was a very strange view, but cool. Looking back is cool too. The distance to hike this mountain is not much, only 1.5 km, but it is slippery + steep + dusty. If you can't do it or want to create content, you can rent a horse for ~200,000 IDR, but you can't go all the way up. You have to walk up anyway. 🌋 Mount Bromo is one of the most famous and stunning attractions in Indonesia. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. What’s so unique about it is the fact that it is a volcano inside another volcano. In the beginning there was only Mount Semeru (the highest peak of Java Island), and it erupted multiple times creating a giant caldera with small mountains inside, and one of them is Mount Bromo which is still active today. The group of mountains is now called Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park and has attracted tourists from all over the world! 🏔️ 🕰️ The best time to go Most people start their journey at 2AM to reach the top by sunrise. 🥾 Hiking up to the crater cone The area leading to the base of Mount Bromo is off limits for any vehicles except by horse or foot. I'd suggest the former because it is not that short of a distance, and the horse ride was pretty exciting, you'll feel like an adventurer in a foreign land. The view was absolutely stunning, you get to see the great expanse of the Semeru caldera 🏇 After the horse ride, you have to hike up 250 stairs to reach the crater cone. The hike was a bit strenuous, but it was worth it when you finally reached the top. The view from the top of the crater cone was breathtaking, with a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding landscape & You can see the active volcano with its steaming fumaroles, which added to the surreal atmosphere of the place. One of the more popular and still active volcanoes in Indonesia is Mount Bromo. I had the chance to see the majestic creation in 2014. We were on a tour package as it saves so much time and effort, and it isn’t that expensive. Plus driving your own vehicle into the volcano area is not allowed. The journey started with a sunset view at King Kong Hill where we oversee Gunung Batok. Then we were driven to Segara Wedi and we had to walk around 250 steps up to the crater. Some can opt to ride a horse but it wont bring you near the volcano mouth. Once you get to the top of the crater rim, you get a clearer and full view directly into the crater! Although it is cool to be near the crater with smokes coming out from it, please be extra careful since there are no fences or barriers to keep you from not falling into the crater. #mountain #bromo #volcano #indonesia

It is a bit hard to arrive at this part of East Java, but completely worth it. Personally I took a bus from the Surabaya airport to Purabaya Bus station (35K IDR, 25 min), and from there a bus to Probolinggo (50K IDR, 2 hours). However, the journey took me much longer as I had to wait for the bus to be almost full to depart, so I waited half an hour at the airport and 2 hours and 20 minutes to go to Probolinggo. In that coast city I stayed at a very nice and affordable Homestay that helped me book the tour to see Bromo (600K IDR shared tour per person, including transportation to Bromo, jeep to go up to the viewpoint to see the sunset and later to the crater, and breakfast). Pick up was at 1:30 am and I was back at the homestay at 10:30. Many people that visit the area also go to the Tumpak Sewu Waterfall and the volcano Ijen. You can book the tours from Probolinggo as well. In my case my next stop was Yogyakarta so I took a direct train from Probolinggo that takes 7 hours and 20 min (280K economy and 410K Executive).
