【Cafe Hopping in Malaysia】Three Stylish Cafes to Visit in KL’s Hidden Gem Area
Just a quick train ride from the city center, the "Ampang" area is full of trendy shops yet surprisingly overlooked by travelers. (It’s not the sweet bun "anpan"!)
This time, I’m introducing three stylish cafes you should check out in Ampang 🫶
【Mori Kohi】
I had no idea there was such a spacious standalone house cafe in Ampang Park! The staff are friendly, and the relaxed atmosphere makes you want to stay longer.
Ordering is easy via QR code. I tried the salad ramen, which was loaded with fresh vegetables, and the sesame dressing and mayonnaise flavors were delicious. The ramen was well-chilled with a nice chewiness, making it quite filling. I wish I had tried the smoothie bowl too~ The cold brew tea was also tasty.
The sweets looked delicious, but I was too full this time, so I held back. I’ll definitely come back!
【sōfte】
A place where you can enjoy stylish ice cream. It’s located near a gallery and is very Instagram-worthy. I had a parfait-style sundae with guava-flavored ice cream, and it was so good I finished the large size all by myself.
The combination of mildly sweet, fluffy milky cream, crispy meringue, and sweet-tart fruity ice cream was perfect! I was nervous about the olive oil drizzle, wondering if it would work, but the olive aroma added a nice accent, creating a unique flavor.
I heard the madeleines are freshly baked, but they looked quite large, so I gave up this time. I want to try them next time!
The staff were kind, and although it’s a bit pricey, it seems like a great dessert spot to visit with friends after a meal 😆
【Wadi Hadramawt】
A Middle Eastern restaurant where everything tastes amazing! It mainly serves Yemeni cuisine.
The lamb Kabsah has tender, fall-apart meat! The rice is richly spiced and very filling.
The lamb kebab is packed with meaty flavor and is quite juicy! The crispy potatoes on the side are delicious too.
For seafood lovers, I recommend the claypot calamari and shrimp! They come piping hot, so be careful not to burn yourself.
Of course, there are many other delicious dishes like falafel and kunafa. Be sure to try the somewhat rare starfruit juice as well! The atmosphere is great, and I highly recommend this place!
