The Luoyang National Ruins Park of Sui and Tang Dynasties was the core area of the imperial palace ruins from the Sui, Tang, Five Dynasties, and Song periods. The most famous structures here are the Mingtang (Hall of Enlightenment) and Tiantang (Hall of Heaven) from Empress Wu Zetian's reign. The Mingtang, located on the central axis of Luoyang during the Sui and Tang Dynasties, served as the main palace hall and was a significant political center where Emperor Gaozong of Tang and Empress Wu Zetian governed the unified empire. The park also inspired the towering pagoda featured in Tsui Hark's 2013 film "Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame." The architectural exterior of the Heavenly Hall has five levels, while the interior boasts nine floors, symbolizing the supreme status of the Son of Heaven. Visitors can take the elevator directly to the ninth floor to enjoy a panoramic view of Luoyang, with the nightscape being a must-see. Other floors also house various-sized Buddha statues and murals, offering insights into the profound Buddhist culture.
