🍽️ Methawalai Sorndaeng — Classic Thai food with Michelin stars
#GetDiscountsWithoutLuck
One day in Bangkok, we made a reservation at a restaurant we'd long wanted to try—Methavalai Sorndaeng on Ratchadamnoen Klang Road—a long-established Thai restaurant that's been awarded a Michelin star for nearly 60 years.

🏛️ Atmosphere & First Impressions
Walking into the restaurant, it felt like stepping back in time to a slower era in Bangkok. The classic decor, wooden furniture, vintage tables and chairs, warm lighting, and live 80s music (played every Thursday to Sunday evening)—had the charm of an "old Bangkok restaurant" that's been well preserved.
The staff were lovely and polite. The tables weren't cramped. There's parking behind the restaurant (about ten cars), which was a huge help in the busy Ratchadamnoen area.

🍲 Menus We Tried & Eating Experiences
We chose several dishes we wanted to try, and they had our hearts set on them since we entered the restaurant:
• Tom Yum Goong—a bold, sour, slightly spicy soup with a fragrant herbal broth. Large, fresh, bouncy shrimp.
• Pineapple Stir-fry — Sweet and sour with crunchy vegetables and pineapple. The flavors are well-balanced, not overpowering.
• Steamed Crab Curry — Full of crab meat, not overly floury, with a rich coconut flavor, just like the care they put into the ingredients.
• Other dishes I tried included Krathong Thong, Tod Mun Pla Krai, Green Curry with Catfish Balls, and Yam Som O — all dishes were meticulously prepared with authentic, rich Thai flavors, whether it was the curry paste, coconut milk, or the salad dressing, which wasn't just spicy, but also had a rich herbal aroma and the freshness of the ingredients.

✨ Most impressive point
• The feeling of "traveling back in time" — not just the delicious food, but the decor, service, music, and atmosphere of the restaurant made us feel like we were part of Bangkok's history.
• Tastes worthy of the "Michelin Star" name — flavors that aren't just bold, but delicate, with a balance of spicy, sour, sweet, salty, and fragrant herbs.
• A diverse menu — perfect for families or friends who enjoy strong flavors. For those looking for a lighter meal, there are options.
• Great value for the experience — around 500-1,000 baht per person (depending on the menu)
