The Mengshan Giant Buddha, also known as the Xishan Giant Buddha, is located in Mengshan, more than 20 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. It was built in the Tianbao period of the Northern Qi Dynasty and has a history of about 1,500 years. It is the largest cliff Buddha in the Northern Dynasties of China. and Buddha Pavilion. It was originally a cliff Buddha statue behind the Kaihua Temple in Mengshan. Tang Gaozu Li Yuan, Tang Gaozong Li Zhi and Empress Wu Zetian, Emperor Wu of the later Tang Dynasty Li Keyong, and Emperor Gaozu of the Later Han Dynasty Liu Zhiyuan all came here to worship Buddha. At the end of the Yuan Dynasty, the Mengshan Giant Buddha was destroyed. In the census of place names in Taiyuan City in 1980, the Mengshan Giant Buddha was rediscovered, but the head of the Buddha has disappeared. The current head of the Giant Buddha was newly chiseled by later generations. The exposed chest and neck of the Mengshan Giant Buddha is 17.5 meters high, 25 meters wide, and 5 meters wide in neck diameter. It was recorded in the Tang Dynasty as "200 feet high", which is about 63 meters today based on the ordinary ruler of the Tang Dynasty. At present, there is a giant cliff-carved Sakyamuni Buddha statue with the exact date, the earliest excavation time and the largest body in the world.
