MacRitchie Reservoir Travel Recommendations for 2025 (Updated in Oct)
Follow
Sometimes in life, it is the things which sustain us that hold the most natural beauty, and this is especially true with the MacRitchie Reservoir in Singapore. While original designs date back to the early nineteenth century, it wasn't until 1868 that the reservoir was finally finished. Once you arrive, you can explore the many walking trails through the surrounding Central Catchment Nature Reserve forest. You can also take in the views by cruising the boardwalks skirting the edge of the reservoir or strolling the HSBC Treetop Walk, a 250 m aerial free standing suspension bridge. With so many ways to take in the beauty, it's no wonder MacRitchie Reservoir is a sight worth experiencing.

🇸🇬 Breathtaking views of MacRitchie Reservoir
MacRitchie Reservoir is the oldest reservoir in Singapore and a popular spot for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The reservoir is part of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, home to a rich variety of flora and fauna.
We started our trip at Caldecott MRT station and walked 10 minutes to get to MacRitchie Reservoir Park. From there it was a 4-hour hike through MacRitchie Nature Trail. The trail took us to the Treetop walk and return via Jering Boardwalk and Chemperai Boardwalk which is about 11 km round trip. Towards the end of the hike, we were rewarded with breathtaking views of the reservoir during the walk through Jering Boardwalk and Chemperai Boardwalk.

Mount Alvernia
I took their complimentary shuttle bus from Bishan MRT station and arrived at Mount Alvernia located at 820 Thomson Rd, Singapore 574623. It is a nice environment here and there are many art pieces and sculptures to explore. The new building has open and you can also hike to the nearby MacRitchie Reservoir Park. There are many buses coming to Mount Alvernia too and it is a non-profit private hospital with many services available. You can also visit here as a tourist at their specialist clinics in the new medical building. Taking taxi or calling for private hire is also very easy here.

MacRitchie Reservoir ☀️🍀
📍 MacRitchie Reservoir Park
There are multiple ways that you can get here because the park has different entrances and trials. It is also a really nice place to view the sunset.
I actually brought my dogs out for a walk but usually I also go for a hike and you can proceed to walk along the boardwalk to catch better views! You get to see many different insects and animals along the way and monkeys too! There is also the MacRitchie treetop walk. Be amazed by the lush greenery 💚
I like that there are also benches along the boardwalk for you to sit and enjoy the view, or you can just sit on the boardwalk itself.

Macritchie Reservoir Like Never Before
Recently, I have visited Macritchie Reservoir Park and it doesn't look like your usual Reservoir. It was beautiful, peaceful and away from all the noise and hustle and bustle of a stressful city life. The air was fresh there, and there's so much to see at this Reservoir Park.
The weather may be warmer these days but surprisingly it was rather cool at Macritchie, with some breeze blowing over the water area. One can find lots of greenery and lots of nice trees. In the event of rain, there are sheltered area to cover yourself or to take a break and rest. Toilets are also nearby and there is even an exercise corner to do some light workout. This is a quieter part of Singapore and you dont get to see alot of people on a weekday morning. It is the prefect place if you like some quiet or alone time to just relax your mind.
I love the blue skies, the tranquil waters, the trees swaying to the breeze and how quiet it was. It's time we take a pause from the city life and be one with nature at Macritchie Reservoir Park.

Singapore’s largest reservoir 💧
MacRitchie Reservoir is a perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and to get a good workout. Located close to central Singapore and easily accessible, this 11-kilometer walking trail and Singapore’s largest reservoir is famous for its broadwalk, running and trekking trails.
You can spot plenty of wildlife around the park especially monkeys (pls do not feed and bring food in open as they might snatch them).
The best time to visit is early morning or evening when the weather is not too hot.
⏰ Daily, 7am - 7pm

Remembering Lim Bo Seng
You may have heard of the name Lim Bo Seng and perhaps it rings a bell or you may have read about his name and this person several times in your history books. Who is Lim Bo Seng? He is a war hero in Singapore that's definitely worth remembering. Lim Bo Seng is an agent in force 136, which was formed during the world war 2 or Japanese occupation in Singapore. He went against and fought bravely, carrying out sabotage activities during the war. Eventually, he was captured by the Japanese and died in captivity.
Lim Bo Seng's actual memorial tomb can be found within Macritchie Reservoir and you can even see his actual photo on the tomb. The place is serene and peaceful. This is a place worth visiting and paying your respect to. It is rich in history and serves as a reminder as to how fortunate we are in current times.

The Scenic Views Of Macritchie Reservoir
There is a beautiful scenic walk located right smack in the middle of Singapore called the macritchie reservoir. Macritchie Reservoir has been constantly upgrading and now its a beautiful place for a morning jog or a hike along the huge body of water.
There are several hiking spots here it macritchie like the Prunus Trial, Lonnie Trial, the Petai Trial and many others, but what I strongly recommend is to walk via the Chemperai Trial.
The Chemperai Trial takes you along the broadwalks right by the unblocked view of the reflected lake making this an ideal photoshot for many. During weekends macritchie can tend to be really crowded, so if you are thinking to do a weekend morning walk, do it early instead!

MacRitchie Reservoir and TreeTop Walk! 🌴🍃☀️
Was a sunny afternoon and decided to move my lazy self to sweat it out and detox, so I decided to head to MacRitchie Reservoir alone! Haven’t been to here for the past 6 months, and the only thing that changed is… the TREETOP WALK IS FINALLY OPENED 😍😍😍
Started walking from the entrance of Macritchie Reservoir Park) near the Paddle Lodge (where people do dragon boat-ing) and through the forest trails. For a relatively fast walker, it will take around 1hr15mins (about 5km from the entrance) to reach the Treetop Trail! Did a video of the scenery and these pictures just does not do justice to the magnificent view from the suspension bridge. Do note that the Treetop Walk is closed on Mondays and entry will be denied after 4.45pm on days which it is open.
After crossing the bridge, you’ll be going up a series of stairs and be brought back to the normal path where you’ll continue your hike and reach the Jelutong Tower! Another Instagrammable spot and to take selfies amongst the greenery 🍃☘️🌱🌿🌴🌳
When you’ve managed to reach the Island Club area, it means you’re already half completed the entire route, well done!! 👏 👏 Just continue to walk through and you’ll be able to see the otter 🦦 signboard, congrats! you’ve successfully completed the entire hike yay 🎉🥳

MacRitchie Reservoir / My last day in Singapore
The limitless beauty that macritchie offers can only be described as breathtaking, yet tranquil. Strolling into the park, one is instantly surrounded by greenery and immensed in its verdant nature.
Sunny weather, blue skies and beautiful clouds. There was a fallen tree along the boardwalk. Be careful,
do be careful of monkeys and do not bother them as they may get aggressive.
and also if you are going to visit Mac Ritchie make sure you bring an umbrella because you can't predict the weather in Singapore half of the day it is raining 🌧️ half of the day sunny ☀️ and water and some food but make sure you keep your food in your bag properly otherwise the monkey will chase you,
Overall, a visit to macritchie is indeed a 10/10 experience,

The Prunus Trial At Macritchie Reservoir
Before heading down to macritchie, it is good to plan ahead on which Trial you are looking to go for u less you wouldn't mind to walk more than 10 over kilometres.
One trial that you can definitely go is the prunus Trial which will bring you along the water catchment area onto a broadwalk which is approximately 2.5km walk 1 way. Its a shady and cooling walk especially before lunch, which is definitely also recommended to start early. Do remember to bring you bottled water as there is no refillable water around the area.
