Cheung Sha Beach — The Longest Beach in Hong Kong (and one of the most beautiful)
At over 3 kilometres long, Cheung Sha Beach is the longest beach in Hong Kong, and one of the best on Lantau Island.
The beach is split into two parts; Lower Cheung Sha Beach and Upper Cheung Sha Beach.
Lower Cheung Sha Beach has a number of restaurants there, namely LongIsland, Bathers, Lantana and a couple of other smaller ones. It also has a local shop called Lantau Grocers and places where you can rent sun umbrellas, surfboards, kayaks and other equipment. This is usually the busier beach due to the wider variety of facilities offered, including the public toilets, showers and changing rooms.
From Tung Chung, you can take buses No. 11, 11A, 11R (only at 09:10 and 10:10 on weekends & public holidays), no. 23 or A35 to the ‘Lower Cheung Sha Village’ bus stop. From Mui Wo, you can reach the beach by taking buses No. 1, 2, 4 or A35 to the ‘Lower Cheung Sha Village’ bus stop. You can also reach Lower Cheung Sha Beach by Lantau Taxi (Blue). It will drop you off at the beach.
Meanwhile, Upper Cheung Sha Beach is the longer part and is often more peaceful and less busy. This is the beach that more people tend to camp on. There is also a camping site called ‘Welcome Beach’ with caravans and tents. At one end of the beach are the large changing room, shower and toilet facilities. There is also a shop at this facilities building.
As this is the longest section of the beach, depending on which part you want to go to, there is a different bus stop.
If you want to go to ‘Welcome Beach’, from Mui Wo, you can take buses No. 1, 2, 4 or A35 to the ‘Butterfly Crest’ bus stop. From Tung Chung, you can take buses No. 11, 11A, 23 or A35 to the ‘Butterfly Crest’ bus stop.
If you want to go to the main building, from Mui Wo, you can take buses No. 1, 2, 4 or A35 to the ‘Upper Cheung Sha Beach’ bus stop. From Tung Chung, you can take buses No. 11, 11A, 11R (only at 09:10 and 10:10 on weekends & public holidays), 23 or A35 to the ‘Upper Cheung Sha Beach’ bus stop.
