Yangshuo Guide: Understand everything in one article and have fun in the essence of Guilin

Transportation🚗: It is recommended to take the high-speed train directly to Yangshuo, and note that the highlights of Guilin are mostly concentrated in Yangshuo. During the peak season, purchase round-trip tickets at least one week in advance to avoid competing with the 'special forces' of college students. For short-distance travel in between, if you can't get a taxi, you need to bargain with motorcycle taxis and private cars to avoid being overcharged. Accommodation🏠: It is recommended to stay in a riverside hotel on West Street by the Li River, where opening the curtains allows you to be greeted by mountains, with the Li River also within close reach, immersing oneself in nature. If you need to take night scene photos, staying in Xingping is even better. Routes/Check-in Spots💞: After exiting Yangshuo high-speed train station, turn left to the bus station and take a 5 yuan bus to Xingping Ancient Town; search for Wangwang Food Fish Restaurant on Baidu, and go down the steps opposite to experience the Li River landscape that appears on the 20 yuan note during the day. Guilin and the surrounding areas have many naturally beautiful attractions to visit, and top of the list has to be the scenic Li River. With its jagged-shaped hills slicing into the sky, clear water and lush vegetation, it is a true heaven on earth. Having been here before in 2018, when it was full of people, we took the opportunity to visit again together as a small group. We were lucky with three things-the weather was excellent, there were no tourists and also COVID travel restrictions had just been removed completely. It proved to be perfect-timing indeed, as we will unlikely be able to experience such a unique set of circumstances ever again. To get here, you will definitely need a private car. The best thing to do is stay in Guilin and rent your own car for the day, or just hire a driver-which is what we did here. It is around a 2-hour drive here, so definitely suggest arriving early at around 9am for this special sightseeing attraction, although there was nobody here when we came. Usually large tour groups can take a large boat up the river, but this wasn't available on the day we came, so we rented two small boats for our group of 5 people. Each boat seats 4 people, so we had to pay for the 3 empty seats at 63¥ per seat, but was well worth it, considering we had the whole place to ourselves! It is also worth mentioning not to eat around here as it tends to be expensive, just drive around 10km away and eat lunch elsewhere. Another thing is that you can combine the Li River with several other attractions on the same day, therefore maximizing your time and money. Definitely, I would recommend visiting here, usually it's one of the busiest tourist destinations in China, but we just couldn't pass up the opportunity to have it to ourselves for just one day! #tripblazers #mytripvlog #2023travelwish

The region around Guilin is arguably one of the most beautiful of all in this continent-sized country. It is centred around the Li River which snakes through lush green woodland, fertilising the patchwork paddy fields that lie beneath tall, stark karst mountains. For centuries artists, poets and painters have come to Li River for inspiration and to document the unrivalled natural beauty. The traditional form of Chinese ink painting that are so often seen on scrolls, old and new, are called shanshui – meaning mountain and water. For it is the tall mountains and flowing water that are the subject of traditional paintings and it is here along the Li River that has inspired the most famous of these artworks. The Li River flows past the large city of Guilin and 90 kms later joins the Yulong River at the smaller town of Yangshuo. It is from here that many visitors base themselves for a few days. The Li River (Lijiang) is a popular journey in the Guangxi province; many travellers choose to cruise the length between Guilin and Yangshuo, and it’s easy to see why – the landscapes are out of this world! Karst mountains rise up from either side of the river, giving way to one of the most magical journeys in the world. The place is so spectacular that it’s actually printed on the back of the 20 Yuan notes – that’s saying something. Seeing the famed Li River can be done in three ways: on a raft, on a cruise, or on foot. Hiking is a great option for the fit, adventurous traveler. The trek from Yangdi to Xingping, about 22 kilometers, takes four to five hours. The trail is pretty straightforward and never strays too far from the river. It’s free and you have full control of everything.

The Auruá Hotel in Yangshuo is one of the most beautiful hidden gems I’ve found in China. It is a luxury resort that has been built into an old sugar mill and has so much history and character. The staff is incredible, the buildings are incredible, the food is incredible, the rooms are incredible, the pool is INCREDIBLE. Really, I cannot say enough good things about our stay here. It is located directly on the Li river and the views are immaculate. Feeling inspired 😻

I traveled 🧳 from Guangzhou to Yangshuo by train 🚆. It took around 3.5 hours. And the train station is around 30-40 minutes far from the city center. I will tell you more about Yangshuo in a specific post. Hidden piece of heaven in Yangshuo, China

Auruá Sugar Mill Hotel (formerly named Alila) is located on the Li River in the mountains of Yangshuo China. Visiting here is like being transported to a different world. This is an old sugar mill that was built in 1960 and recently converted into a luxury resort in 2017. Overall: - My stay at this hotel comes with high praises and a 10/10 recommendation. Getting There: - Fly into the Guilin International Airport. From there, it is about a 1.5 hour drive to the hotel. We hired a private driver for our trip and made our way there while visiting a few other sights along the way. You could also book a taxi or DiDi here from the airport. Highlights: - Everything :) - THE POOL is INCREDIBLE. It was built into the original loading dock of the sugar mill. - THE BAR was built into the original pressing room and has the ultimate high end ambiance while keeping the original features of the room as a foundation - THE RESTAURANT had a large variety of multiple options including unique dishes that were built upon flavors famous to the Yangshuo area. - THE SERVICE was really what made the trip. Although the grounds themselves were incredible, our time was ten times better because of the wonderful staff who worked her. On our first night we were approached by Michael, The Director Of Operations, who became a good friend instantly. His energy was so warm and he gave us a tour of part of the grounds and gave us recommendations for the events happening that weekend as well as his favorite places at the resort. We also made friends with our chef, Jack, who was amazing and served us dinner and breakfast. He was so kind and let us try some unique options from the menu. Getting There - Go to the Zhujiang Pier about 40 minutes drive from Guilin City Center. Attractions - River Cruise/ Bamboo Raft (best views are between Yangdi village and Xingping Village) Start your day early. Many of the cruise trips depart between 8:30 to 9:30 am. The registration process is a bit lengthy (have your passport, covid tests, vaccination record and green codes ready). The cost of the cruise varies depending on the cruise ship you select. Each cruise line provides meals but you can bring your own snacks. The trip is about 4-5 hours depending on the weather. The views are spectacular. You’ll have a guide who will explain different sites and will allow you to go to the upper deck for great shots of the scenery. Picturesque cruise ride from Guilin

Guilin is well known for its beautiful nature landscapes, especially for its world renowned river, the Li river. And to best enjoy the Li River, I will highly recommend take the river cruise which takes you from Guilin to Yang Shuo. I must say the views along the way are incredible. Remember seeing those Chinese paintings that has sea and mountains? This place looks exactly like that! It was really an eye opening experience for me. For the cruise ride, there are 2 options. The 3 star and the 4 star cruise, which you can choose from depending on your budget. There is also lunch provided during the ride, but just note that the meals are definitely not a highlight of the ride. The trip will take about 4 hours to reach the destination. One tip for those who are taking the cruise: Make sure to check the weather forecast and plan for a ride which has a good weather with no rain. Li River Cruise

Li river,which is scenic and known to run through Guilin has the most spectacular scenery I’ve seen. The river flowing through the mountain and reflections of the mighty mountains is beyond amazing!! Our hotel travel agent,helped us book the bamboo speed raft which was near the hotel. It cost us 520 yuan for three people,and the boat had seats for 4 people. We opted for the hour trip (back and forth) and nicely asked the boat guy to stop at the end so that we can take pictures for 10 minutes. He was not so pleased with this but allowed us to do so hahah. As we got off the old guy with the birds came along and wanted us to use his prompts. He charged us 50 yuan,though later one of the girls told us he overcharged ,it’s actually 10 yuan hahah (everything is negotiable around here). Getting There - fly in to Guilin and spend one night because the cruise start early in the morning. there are two warfs- Mopanshan (regular cruise) and Zhujiang (luxury cruises). Taxi from airport is around 200rmb, from hotels around 100. Best to book in advance with hotel or travel service so they can pick up tickets in advance and provide car to warf. Eat breakfast then go because takes about 50 min to the warf and you need to get thru security (make sure to have your green code ready) and a long walk to the boat. Attractions - During the 4 hour cruise, you will see beautiful cliffs and jagged hills set right kingside the banks of the river. So many photo ops and the boats provide a photographer for 130rmb. There is a “thumbs up” area and the 7 horse fresco mountain, but most tourists want to see the 20 rmb note photo which is near lunchtime. realize you are on the river with dozens of other boats- it’s a popular attraction. Food- Lunch is a buffet of Chinese dishes (noodles, bamboo rice, pork, etc- pretty bland) and some chicken nuggets and french fries for the kids (more taste actually). shopping-The boat sells souvenirs and snacks separately. The photos can be purchased at the end of the cruise Hotels- we stayed one night at the Shangri La in Guilin and wished we had more time. Kids loved the pool and activities.
