Lake Matheson - the iconic reflective lake
Nice, scenic walk! Very easy terrain. A little wet on the day that we went. It took us 1.5 hr for a brisk walk on the entire loop. A stroll would probably take ~2 hrs.
Took us 30 minutes drive from Franz Josef Village.
There is a proper parking lot with a cafe and a little souvenir shop. Nice place to rest at after the walk.

Enjoy the perfect view of Snowy Mountains at Lake Matheson.
Lake Matheson is most famous for its mirror-like lake water, and it truly lives up to its reputation as a breathtakingly beautiful place that people can't help but linger at.
However, my personal favorite ending trail leads to a large open space before reaching the parking lot, where the view of Mount Cook is absolutely stunning, especially in the evening when the sunset paints the sky red and the sun illuminates the mountaintop, with flocks of geese adding to the beauty. It's hard to imagine a more picturesque scene.

Sometimes I couldn't help but encounter the low tide of RP during the trip. I originally planned to walk on the Fox Glacier. I didn't think it was already next to the helicopter, but it was cancelled because of the sudden change of weather. Decisively drove to the franze glacier immediately, and I was disappointed to try to walk for about an afternoon. The result of the
and the glaciers missed was that I walked four rounds away from the Fox Glacier at dusk and early morning. The lake is as flat as a mirror, reflecting the reflection of the highest peak of Mount Cook, beautiful and quiet, which is somewhat regrettable for me to make up.
Fanatic friends should wait for the sunset at lake matheson, and the reflection of the golden snow peak is even more amazing. Well, I saw this scene, but the camera is not in the hand, when the RP value is low on the trip, it is such a disappointment.
OO-OO.
Choosing to go to Fox, it will be arranged for glacier walking or helicopter viewing

New Zealand | Unexpectedly into the rainforest version of Lake Matheson
Lake Matheson has three viewpoints, clockwise: Jetty Point (20 minutes) - View of View (45 minutes) - Reflection island (1 hour)
It takes an hour and a half to walk around Lake Matheson, which is actually the right time. If you have a physical problem or a time problem, you can choose to go to the Reflection Island directly counterclockwise. After all, this is the climax of the three viewpoints.
Route: There will be a winding road in the entrance to Matheson Caf for 10 minutes, with Lake Matheson on the side, Car Parking on the side, and Car Parking.
My God, am I going wrong? ! The moss covered with trees is so cute that it will explode, forgive me for the love of moss. So I took a one-and-a-half-hour road for two and a half hours. I experienced two heavy rains in the middle. If I said that I was dizzy, no one believed it!

1, all in a clockwise way, from the starting point to Jetty one-way 1.2 kilometers, round-trip 2.4 kilometers, round-trip time 45 minutes. Starting point to View of Views

Matheson Lake is located 5 minutes drive from the town of Fox. There is a trail around the lake. The most praised is the three viewing platforms on the trail. When the weather is good, you can see the snow-capped mountains reflected in the lake.
When you hear about Lake Matheson, how can you not find out? Walking down the glacier, we took a short break and drove to Lake Matheson. Walking all the way in the jungle, the wooden planks at the foot are reinforced with iron wire, and there are many detours. When there are few people, you can't see other people before and after. Quietness is as if the air is condensing here, and occasionally distant vocals are heard, but the direction is not clear. Because it is impossible to see where the lake is, this 1.2 km is very long.
Suddenly, there was a gap in the bush, the Jetty point appeared in front of the view, and the lake was just in front of the viewing platform. Today's good fortune is left to the glacier, and there is no sunny day in the evening. The distant peaks are covered by clouds, and there is no sunset. The second time we turned right at the fork and walked to Reflection Island.
This one-way trip will be 2.4 kilometers, but I am mindful that this is the best one of the three viewing platforms, so I can't help but have a foot. After walking for half an hour, I finally arrived. A wooden plank stretches into the lake and is paved with a small platform on the lake, so it is called Island.

Not far from the town of Fox is a Matheson Lake, which is famous for the reflection of Mount Cook, also known as the "Mirror Lake", but such a landscape requires calm and sunny weather. It takes only 40 minutes to get to the first viewing platform. On the bench by the lake, I squatted for a while, the wind was blowing, the ripples on the lake were rolling gently, and I didnt appreciate the famous reflection of Jing Lake. But the old people don't care. The children are very happy when they walk around the woods.
Desperado.
Lake Matheson is located near the Fox Glacier, ending the glacier experience, and we drove here. On a clear, cloudless day, the lake's highest peaks, Aoraki (also known as Mount Cook) and Mount Tasman, reflect on the lake. The lake is like a silver mirror. Lost fairyland. Here is the place where photographers love to go. Sunny days can take pictures of mountains. Clouds can take reflections of clouds. In the morning, you can take morning fog. In the night of the moon, you can shoot the reflection of the mountain peaks. The night without moon can be taken. The reflection of the starry sky, sunrise and sunset can take the reflection of the sunshine of Jinshan........ of course
