Kunming Botanical Garden is located at No. 132, Lanhei Road, Panlong District, Kunming City. The botanical garden was established in 1938 and is affiliated with the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is a comprehensive botanical garden integrating scientific research, species conservation, and popular science education. The garden focuses on the conservation of plants from the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and Southwest China. It is divided into two main areas, East and West, and a central garden. It has built 16 specialized gardens, including the Camellia Garden, Aquatic Plant Garden, Global Allium Garden, Rhododendron Garden, Foliage and Fruit Garden, Hundred Herb Garden, Rose Garden, Extremely Small Population Wild Plant Garden, Fuli Palace Greenhouse Complex, Magnolia Garden, and Gymnosperm Garden, collecting and conserving more than 8,840 species and varieties of plants. The most important central garden, Fuli Palace, is the core experience area of the biodiversity experience garden and the national strategic protection base for wild germplasm resources, conserving more than 2,500 species, most of which are rare, endangered, endemic, and protected plants. It includes five exhibition halls: Cryptogam Hall, Main Greenhouse, Herb and Wood Hall, Orchid Hall, and Carnivorous Plant Hall. The Main Greenhouse is the most magnificent, covering an area of 4,200 m^2, consisting of tropical aquatic area, tropical fruit area, tropical rainforest area, and tropical desert area. Its unique spiral structure expresses the core of life composition. The entire greenhouse is winding and secluded, housing more than 1,800 species of plants, showcasing a rich and wonderful variety of tropical fruits and aquatic plants, such as miracle fruit, space banana, Victoria water lily, and pandanus; unique tropical rainforest landscapes, such as single tree forests, strangling, buttress roots, cauliflory, aerial gardens, and drip tips; and exotic tropical desert plants from hot dry valleys, the Australian interior, African savannas, and American deserts. The most difficult to enter is Fuli Palace, which requires real-name reservation and paid guided tours. There are three guided tours per day, each with a maximum of 25 people, and a daily limit of 300 people. Reservations must be made online in advance. The botanical garden hosts various flower seasons and activities throughout the year, including Camellia Exhibition, Rhododendron Exhibition, Allium Culture and Art Exhibition, Mini Summer Camp, Summer Music Forest Festival, Maple Leaf Season, Autumn Camping Season, Power of Seeds, Science Popularization Day, and Public Open Day. Although the botanical garden is located in the northwest of the city in Panlong District, it is easily accessible. You can drive directly along Beijing Road or Longquan Road, and buses 9, 79, 128, and 159 also go directly to the North Gate Station of the botanical garden. The surrounding area is forested, with fresh air and cool temperatures, and nearby attractions include Heilongtan Park, Longquan Temple, Wanshou Palace, and Yunnan Agricultural University, making it an ideal place for summer vacation and leisure travel.
