King Taksin Shipyard, pay respect to King Taksin
The King Taksin Shipyard (Samet Ngam Shipyard) is assumed to be the place where King Taksin the Great used as a shipyard when he was preparing to lead an army to attack Burma to regain Thai independence in 2310.
According to the Thonburi Chronicles, Panchanthanumas version, before King Taksin led an army to attack Burma, he built about 100 ships in Chanthaburi. At Wat Samet Ngam, which is not far away, many golden teak tree stumps were found. It is also said that there was a canal dug to transport teak logs to the shipyard. Therefore, it is assumed that this area was once a shipyard for King Taksin. An ancient junk from the time of King Taksin was discovered, which is in the most complete condition ever found in the Gulf of Thailand. An ancient dug-out ship was also found, which is interesting evidence that shows that this was a sea trade area in the past.
King Taksin the Great Shipyard Inside the building, there is a permanent exhibition about the biography and royal activities of King Taksin the Great, the history and archaeological evolution of Chanthaburi, shipbuilding technology, pottery. Sangkhalok ware, model ships, ancient utensils, etc. The building showing large junks and local exhibitions. The building demonstrating and selling local products of Ban Samet Ngam. The pier with decommissioned warships parked for tourists to see.
