By chance, I went to Kam Tin to visit the mural village, and it occurred to me that there is actually a mural village to check in in Hong Kong! As early as 2010, mural villages have become popular in different countries and regions such as Brazil, the United Kingdom, and China, with a total of more than 2,000 villages. Don’t think that mural villages are necessarily created by artists. The construction started in October 2017 and took about half a year. In April 2018, with the efforts of a group of volunteers, more than 20 murals with the theme of "love" were created. Some of them are masterpieces with the theme of integration, created by everyone together, and the number has increased from 20 at the beginning to 46 now. The murals in Kam Tin Mural Village will appear in different places in the center of Kam Tin, most of which are concentrated in Kat Hing Circuit. Some of the paintings are on cart stalls with cats as the theme. Some murals are painted on red brick walls. There are many paintings with flower themes, and each mural has different characteristics. If you want to start appreciating the mural from the first one, you can start at Ying Hui Fang near Jinshang Road West Rail Station. It takes about three minutes to walk to there. It is like a mini version of Seoul Container Mall in South Korea. In addition to several restaurants and boutiques, it also hides the first stop of the mural village, "God Bless the City", a work that describes "love" for the region.
