Historic buildings
Kat Hing Wai is a vast rural area in the east of Yuen Long, where there is a famous ancient walled village, Kat Hing Wai. Jiqingwei is rectangular in shape and covers an area of 45 mu (about 100 meters long and 90 meters wide). Inside is a neatly arranged house. A solid city wall is built with blue bricks around, and there are gun towers at the four corners. There is a moat outside the wall. It is a building with a high degree of defense. Deng Fuxie, the ancestor of the Deng family, came to settle here as early as the Northern Song Dynasty. Later, Deng Bojing and two other people lived in the surrounding village during the Chenghua period (1465-1487) of the Ming Dynasty. It has a history of more than 500 years. There are about 400 descendants of the Deng family living here. In fact, there are several similar village walls in Kam Tin District, such as Bei Wai, Nan Wai, Wing Lung Wai, Tai Hing Wai, etc., collectively known as "Kam Tin Six Wais", but Kat Hing Wai is complete and open to visit. You can walk around and take a look at Jiqingwei, but the city wall outside is quite suitable for watching slowly. There is only one entrance and exit in the entire Jiqingwei. There is a bronze plaque recording the history of Deng's family outside the door. The bronze tablet records the detailed history of the development of Deng's family. Since Deng's ancestor Deng Fu came here in the Northern Song Dynasty, these hundreds of years of ups and downs . Check it out if you're interested. Walking in from the door, you can see several shops selling souvenirs neatly arranged on both sides. Women specially wear black national costumes for people to take pictures. You have to pay a few Hong Kong dollars to take pictures. Continuing to go inside, you may be a little disappointed, because many residential buildings inside have been renovated, and there are few preserved ancient buildings, except for a small ancestral hall at the inner end of the village, which is dedicated to 15 people. God, you can take a look by the way. Other highlights may be a little less. The entire Jiqingwei is filled with modern ordinary dwellings. If you think there is nothing to see, just follow the original road. When you come out from the main gate, there are bunkers and artillery towers on both sides of the city wall, which have been preserved. You can also see the moat interspersed among them. It is said that the wall is about 18 feet thick. Although these city walls and bunkers have been mottled and even a little dilapidated, these ancient buildings are still preserved after a hundred years of vicissitudes, and it is not easy, so these places are very suitable for taking a few elegant and beautiful photos for yourself.
