#September2025 🏯 The Kaohsiung Lighthouse (also known as the Qihou Lighthouse) is located atop Qihou Mountain in Qijin District, Kaohsiung City. Built in 1883 and designed by a British engineer, it is Taiwan's only white octagonal brick lighthouse. The tower's top retains a unique Chinese-style wind vane (east, west, south, and north) from the Japanese colonial era. The lighthouse survived machine gun fire during World War II and remained operational. It was designated a municipal historic site in 1987, a testament to the development of Kaohsiung Port.

Qijin Island is accessible from Kaohsiung through Gulshan Ferry. The boat leaves every 10 minutes and costs 30NTD/person, payable with Easy Card. On a busy Sunday afternoon, expect a 20-30 minute waiting time to get on the boat, but the journey itself takes around 10 minutes. Once arrived in Qijin Island, the main focus should be Mount Cihou and the trailway around it. There is a lighthouse on top of the mountain. The hike up is not hard and it takes about 10 minutes. Overall we spent 2 hours walking around Qijin. The beach is also nice, packed with people flying fish-like kites. The sea is very wavy so be careful when swimming. There are places to get changed and restrooms.

When I go to Kaohsiung for the first time, I know it's not as good as going to popular attractions like Taichung and Taipei. But Kaohsiung Cijin gave me another feeling, Take the MRT Orange Line to Hamasing Station and walk less than 10 minutes or so to the pier. Another about 8 minutes by boat to Cijin! There are many places to rent bikes around once you get off the boat. If you don't want to walk so hard you might as well rent it, hourly! Walk straight towards the beach for 5 minutes and it's a seafood street. Walk through the food street and you will reach Qijin Moses Fenhai Beach. The environment is very comfortable. Blowing the sea breeze and meditating to relax is great It's great for taking pictures (depending on the weather😆) After enjoying the sea breeze and checking in, we went to the Qihou Sightseeing Market to buy local snacks and specialties , there are flag back platforms, Kaohsiung Lighthouse and other attractions on the right hand side as soon as you exit the pier! I didn't go up to the lighthouse because I was bringing children and pushing a stroller this time🤦🏻♂️ If you want to see all the above locations, expect the trip to stay about two to three hours! I left Cijin this trip by boat return and then walk back to Hama Star Railway Park for about 10 minutes, you can play down to the Great Harbor Warehouse 😉
