Kaeng Krachan National Park
Kaeng Krachan National Park covers the areas of Nong Ya Plong District, Kaeng Krachan District, Phetchaburi Province, and Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. It is the largest national park in Thailand. It is a rich forest, the headwaters of the Phetchaburi and Pran Buri Rivers, and has many important natural features such as lakes, waterfalls, caves, and beautiful cliffs. It covers an area of approximately 1,821,687.84 rai or 2,914.70 square kilometers. Background When His Majesty the King visited Klai Kangwon Palace in Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, and visited Kaeng Krachan Dam, he ordered Mr. Thanom Premrasmi, Director-General of the Royal Forest Department, to have an audience on October 29, 1979. His Majesty gave the following royal address: “Regarding the headwaters and streams of the Phetchaburi River, please have the officials take care of it and do not allow illegal logging, forest clearing, or farming in the headwaters of the Phetchaburi River, because this will cause drought.
