[Singapore-Johor Bridge] Early morning half-day tour, suitable for early weekend trip
5:30 early to get up and cross the Johor-Singapore Bridge to check in 🇲🇾, have breakfast, and realize 🇲🇾 a half-day tour, and compare the differences in commuting methods between the Singapore-Malaysia checkpoint and the Shenzhen-Hong Kong checkpoint 😂
⏰Border closure time: two years for Singapore and Malaysia, three years for Shenzhen and Hong Kong😤. Both are one of the busiest land checkpoints in the world, facing each other across the river, and are different in social system, industrial development, official currency, and price level. Everyone chooses to cross the border for a better life, including many cross-border students.
🚝Transportation: There are currently only two land ports between Singapore and Malaysia, with only buses, trains, private cars and motorcycles. It is normal to wait for two or even six hours during rush hour and holiday traffic jams. The pressure of crossing the border is huge. It is said that the Johor Bahru-Singapore MRT under construction will not be completed until 2026; Shenzhen and Hong Kong have six land ports, with subways, high-speed rails, private cars, and shipping. The time for crossing the border is flexible and improvisational. Even during peak holiday periods, the waiting time is only about an hour at most.
👮🏻♀️Clearance method: Singapore can only clear customs completely by itself, while 🇲🇾 only Malaysian citizens can clear customs by themselves, and foreigners can only go through the manual channel; Shenzhen and Hong Kong mainly use self-service customs clearance, supplemented by manual customs clearance
📍Differences between the two places: Singapore and Malaysia are separated by a river, and the consumption level of 🇲🇾 is obviously much lower than that of 🇸🇬, including catering, massage and other methods. Singaporeans like to go to Johor Bahru to spend weekends or holidays, similar to Hong Kong people going to Shenzhen to find food and consumption. In addition to the obvious increase in the number of Malay women wearing headscarves on the streets of Johor Bahru, there are many gaps in street cleanliness, building appearance, and green landscape with 🇸🇬, and there is still a long way to catch up. On the other hand, Shenzhen and Hong Kong have been in the east for 30 years and the west for 30 years. After the epidemic, it has become a trend for Hong Kong people to go to Shenzhen to consume on weekends.
🍝Johor Bahru recommendation: Due to limited time, I basically wandered around the JB sentral checkpoint. It took about 15 minutes to walk to Chen Xu Nian Cultural Street. There are many food options. I sighed again that the prices in Malaysia are so low. If you get up late, you have to wait in line under the scorching sun! Johor Bahru is mainly a place for low-cost shopping and entertainment for people from Singapore. There are not many really interesting places. The purpose is to experience cross-border experience.
PS: Before departure, make sure that your passport meets the visa-free conditions of Malaysia and obtain relevant visas; if you go to Johor Bahru on weekends, it is recommended to get up early and avoid the peak period of 8-10 o'clock. If you return from Johor Bahru to Singapore, avoid the afternoon and evening time period, otherwise you will queue up to doubt your life! The buses on the Johor-Singapore Bridge can be swiped by visa and master card, swipe once when getting on the bus and swipe once when getting off the bus; it is recommended to exchange a small amount of 🐎 currency cash when going to Johor Bahru, and some small shops cannot swipe credit cards💳.
