2025 Kannami Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in April)

✅Transportation: Take the train to Atagawa Station, and you can see the hotel right after you exit. There is a shuttle bus every half hour during the day, which is quite convenient and doesn't require a reservation in advance, but it stops running after 4 PM (you can book in advance if you check in late). You can also get off at Kitagawa Station and walk for 10 minutes to reach the hotel. Additionally, it's very convenient to go to the sister hotel, Kichijo-tei, for a hot spring bath, which is a five-minute walk (there's a small path behind the hotel across the zebra crossing). When it gets dark, you can take the shuttle bus, which runs every half hour. If you stay for multiple nights, you can take the hotel's shuttle to Izu-Kogen Station. ✅Food: My rating is 'feeding pigs'. Upon arrival, the hotel gives you a booklet that crazily introduces what food is available at what times, and there are free snacks all day long. The room also provides many small snacks (the orange jelly is highly recommended). For dinner, I chose teppanyaki and French kaiseki, but I don't like raw food and seafood, so I had a hard time eating. If you stay for multiple nights, they offer a lunch bento, but I didn't take it. ✅Environment: It's much quieter than the old Kichijo-tei, and the overall facilities are newer. The hot spring views are also great (we basically tried all the baths). It's a comfortable walk down to the seaside, and walking on the breakwater is very pleasant. You can also check out the famous wild hot spring, Kurone Iwa Furo.

Kanefuku Mentai Park. There is a mentaiko shop, an eat-in space for mentaiko dishes, and a factory tour. I didn't have the courage to try the mentaiko soft serve ice cream, so the safe jumbo mentaiko rice ball was absolutely delicious. I went to the local restaurant "Charcoal Grill Restaurant" in Shizuoka, which is rumored to have the best hamburgers. 😋🍴 Maybe because I went at lunchtime, it was quite crowded and I had to wait 40 minutes. But I was actually able to get in after about 30 minutes! I ordered the most popular "Genkotsu Hamburger" without any hesitation. Lunch comes with rice or bread and soup, so it's a great deal. As rumored, a fist-sized chunk of meat was brought to me, and the staff cut it in half, poured sauce over it, and grilled it until it was sizzling! It was semi-rare inside, and the meat juices overflowed. ✨ The meat had a strong flavor and was very delicious! ! This is a restaurant that you can only eat in Shizuoka, and has not expanded outside the prefecture, so if you come to Shizuoka, please be sure to visit! I went to Komeda Coffee in Kannami, Shizuoka Prefecture. I had gratin for lunch and coffee jelly with ice cream for a snack! It was very delicious. Kannami is close to hot spring towns such as Atami and Izu Nagaoka, so it's a great place to stop by on your way home from the hot springs! I went to La Pan, a bakery in Kannami, Shizuoka Prefecture! It was my first time there, but there were 2-3 people lined up in front of the store, so it seems to be a popular store loved by locals! The prices were reasonable, so I ended up buying a lot! All the breads in the display case looked delicious, and they were all perfect for a stay-at-home stay!! I went to Mentai Park, located next to the Izu Gateway Roadside Station! I went in the evening, so the rice balls were sold out and I couldn't get any, but I was able to try some mentaiko for free! There's also a corner in the back where you can learn about the process of how mentaiko is made, so it's also recommended for families with children!! There's no admission fee! [Izu Gateway Kannami] River Station I went to the river station in Kannami, Shizuoka Prefecture. Because I went on a Sunday, a bicycle event was also being held. I went to Cafe Irodori in Kannami, Shizuoka Prefecture! I went there first thing in the morning, right when it opened, so I was the first one there, and there were all kinds of cakes to choose from♪ I had the tiramisu, which is said to be served on a whim! I went to Uogashi Sushi Izu Gateway Kannami store😊 I went on a weekday, and customers were coming in one after another from the opening time😳 Weekday-only lunch! ! I went to Kongari, a local bakery in Kannami! Most of the items were only 100 yen!! Everything looked so delicious that I ended up buying a lot! I went to the roadside station Izu no Heso! There were many local specialties of Shizuoka and Izu on sale, such as local vegetables and fruits, shiitake mushrooms, wasabi, sakura shrimp, and tea! They had a wide range of products, including sweets, local vegetables, souvenirs, and seafood, and it was fun just looking around! There was also a shiitake mushroom UFO catcher! One of the attractions of Jikkoku Pass is that it can be easily accessed by cable car. Once you get on the cable car, you will arrive at the summit in no time, so you can enjoy it safely even with children. There is also an observation deck and souvenir shop at the top of the mountain, where you can check out the famous sweets and local specialties. Seasonal flowers and autumn leaves are also highlights, so it is a perfect place for those who want to enjoy nature. Jukkoku Pass is located between Hakone and Izu, standing at an elevation of 765 meters. From the summit, you can see the historical ten provinces of Japan: Izu (Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture), Tōtōmi (western Shizuoka Prefecture), Kai (Yamanashi Prefecture), Suruga (central Shizuoka Prefecture), Shinano (Nagano Prefecture), Sagami (central Kanagawa Prefecture), Kazusa (central Chiba Prefecture), Shimōsa (northern Chiba Prefecture), Musashi (eastern Kanagawa Prefecture, Tokyo, Saitama Prefecture), and Awa (southern Chiba Prefecture). On clear days, you can even catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji! You can take a bus from Atami Station to the cable car station, and then ride the Jukkoku Toge Cable Car to the summit in just about 3 minutes! Besides the stunning views, you can also enjoy hiking, luxury camping, and local delicacies here. Unfortunately, the cable car was under maintenance on the day of our visit, so we couldn't go up.

A cute mascot character will greet you, and you can eat delicious mentaiko gourmet on the spot! What I ate this time was the "Mintai Mentaiko Onigiri". It was a large onigiri with plenty of mustard mentaiko! The popular flavors sell out quickly, so it's recommended to go in the morning! It was a great place to get a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji. Parking was free. There were lots of souvenirs, which was nice.

If you take the retro cable car to the top, you'll be greeted by a spectacular 360° panorama🥹 On a clear day, you can get a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji🩵 There's also a "Sky Dog Run" that's divided into two areas: a dog run for small dogs and a dog run for all breeds! #thingstodo Mentai Park Kannami is an amazing experience. They don't charge an entrance fee, similar to the Wasabi shop/farm next door. The cafeteria exhibits their fresh fish eggs on pasta, meat buns, and even ice cream! Yes, you heard me right, fish egg flavored ice cream. While that may sound odd, don't knock it until you try it. My wife who hates fish eggs loved the ice cream. On the second floor there is a foot bath onsen to soak your weary feet if you've been walking all day. I know we were tired. The first floor has tons of merchandise for sale, and a plethora of interactive exhibitis to educate you about fishing and the eggs. Unfortunately, the text was only available in Japanese. Overall, a wonderful location and inexpensive leisure. Please stop by, im so glad we did.
