2025 Freiburg im Breisgau Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in August)

A university city, Freiburg im Breisgau, is easily reachable by trains and bus, with both being highly frequent and affordable. Flixbus and DB will be good search engines to use, the former having great rates if you book early. We managed to get EU5 to Strasbourg, France! The city itself is curious to explore and has a youthful vibe. We marvelled at how one could sit on the bridge and chat with friends (you’ll need to zoom in the photo to get what I mean). The streets and architecture are fascinating and transports one back into an era forgotten. In the evening, if you follow the sounds of the cathedral chimes, you’ll reach a square where you can also find some street vendors for wooden toys and snacks like roastes chestnuts! We stayed at Adagio, which is about a 10 minute tram ride away. Trams are frequent and there is a day-group pass which makes it cheap to travel together. While the aparthotel provides the option for breakfast, you can also source fresh ingredients from the 3 supermarkets nearby (Aldi, Lidl, and my favourite, Kaufland) to prepare your own meals. There are restaurants in the area too. Guests in Freiburg do not qualify for the Konus card (free regional transport) but there are ways around it with DB group travel and regional passes. #blackforest #accorhotels

Location: Münsterplatz, 79098 Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany The marketplace is lively and buzzling. It is a great place to pick up some coffee and fresh blooms for the day or just to take a stroll on the cobblestone paths. There were approximately 100+ stalls with a wide variety of products ranging from vegetables, meats, fruits, cheese, crafts, accessories, plants and flowers. I read later that the market is open every day from Monday to Saturday, till 1.30pm. It is situated just in front of the Freiburger Munster (Cathedral) which is a landmark in Freiburg. Surrounding the market are some restaurants for those who prefer to sit indoors and watch the world go by. #germany #market

Freiburg im Breisgau!! Freiburg im Breisgau is a sunny, eco-friendly, and youthful city. It’s nestled between the Rhine Valley and the Black Forest. Freiburg’s car-free downtown invites leisurely exploration. Tranquil streets beckon pedestrians to wander at will. The medieval narrow streets transport you into another time and are perfect for exploration by foot. Since the city is one of the most sustainable in many ways, the convenience for bikes and bike rental are extraordinary if you want to adventure out of the old town. Freiburg, located in southern Germany, is a town full of a warm and leisurely atmosphere, worthy of its nickname of ‘the sunniest city in Germany’. The entire city center is made up of cute buildings and old-fashioned stone buildings, so it felt like walking through a town in a European fairy tale. Especially in the old town (Altstadt), small canals and stone paths come together, so just walking around was healing, and cafes and markets naturally blended into the streets, so it was fun to watch the daily lives of the locals. The Schweinshaxe was especially delicious!!! The urban environment of Freiburg, Germany is so beautiful! ! ! Take tram No. 1 and get off at Bertoldsbrunnen-Freiburg im Breisgau station; Freiburg Cathedral is nearby, about an 8-minute walk away.
