Cicadas are born from trees, but they burrow out from the soil. They hibernate in the dark underground for 3 years, 5 years, or even more than 17 years. They rely on sucking the juice of plant roots for survival, undergo four molts, and when they have resistance, they break out of the ground, just for mating.
The cicada sounds we hear are actually mating signals emitted by male cicadas. They show themselves by "roaring" and demonstrate their reproductive strength. After a round of romantic and annoying cicada sounds, life comes to an end.
So, this is the life of a cicada, "rather cry to death", paying everything for the continuation of the species. When you understand the cry of the cicada, you will cheer for its life.
