Winters walk through Kirkyard
Located just a short walk from Grassmarket and the Meadows , Greyfriars Kirkyard is the resting place of the famous dog Bobby .
The cemetery is not big , but on a nice day you can come and enjoy the castle views and find a little bit of serenity within the city.
Amenities / Restaurants: At both entrances ,there is access to plenty of restaurants . Notably at the northern entrance is Greyfriars Bobby's bar for a quick pint after some ghost hunting .
Greyfriars Kirkyard is a must visit on a trip to Edinburgh and should be experienced both during the day for the spectacular views and also at night for something a little bit more spooky.

🕍I have visited so many different tourist destinations in my life, but never have I ever come across any tourist attraction which is a graveyard (believe it or not!).
⚰️Greyfriars Kirkyard is a graveyard located in the Old Town of Edinburgh, Scotland and an active burial ground since late 16th century.
👻If you are like me and you enjoy exploring spooky, haunted, or simply interesting places, then you must visit this place.
Another reason to visit this place especially for Harry Potter fans would be to visit Tom Riddle aka Voldemort's real grave which inspired JK Rowling.

Greyfriars Kirkland 🪦⚡️
Greyfriars Kirkyard is a popular spot on many tour routes through Edinburgh but it’s a must see on a Harry Potter tour.
🪦Nestled within Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, Greyfriars Kirkland stands as a testament to centuries of Scottish history, its burial grounds echoing with tales of the past since the 16th century. Renowned author JK Rowling famously frequented this sacred space, drawing inspiration from the weathered gravestones and evocative names that pepper the landscape. Notably, the name Thomas Riddell, believed to have sparked the creation of the infamous Voldemort, captures the imagination of visitors. For a mere 50p, one can acquire a map pinpointing the locations of these literary treasures, adding depth to the experience.
However, it’s not just fictional characters that inhabit these grounds; beside the West entrance lies the resting place of Greyfriars Bobby, the beloved and loyal canine whose legendary devotion continues to captivate hearts. Visitors pay homage to this faithful friend by leaving sticks at his gravestone, a touching tribute to his enduring legacy. Greyfriars Kirkland offers more than a glimpse into the past; it’s a poignant reminder of the intertwined nature of history, literature, and the enduring spirit of loyalty.
