Discover the Hidden Village of Zhejiang
I love hiking and I enjoyed my trip to the Gongyu Village in Zhejiang, China.
China is ultimately beautiful and it was an unforgettable experience to explore its hard to get to places.
Gongyu Village is also called a hidden village in English because it is really hard to get to. Our group took a private bus from Shanghai and it took approximately 8 hours because we made a mistake of traveling during the Golden Week (1st week of April).
Upon arrival there by bus, our group had to hike with all of our belongings on our backs for 2 hours before reaching the Hidden village.
When we arrived I couldn’t believe my eyes, there it was, a beautiful and authentic local Chinese village with no sign of modern civilization still standing there in the 21st century.
We spent 4 days hiking the surrounding mountains and eating local authentic food cooked by the local villagers. The also supplied us beer and karaoke for the evening entertainment.
The accommodation was not good at all, since it was an open room with many people sleeping on hard beds, but it was ok for a few nights. Many people chose to camp outside in tents.
Gongyu Village or The Hidden Village is a magical place and you should definitely visit it one day! Enjoy 😊

Shangri-La in Jiangnan, Gongyu.
It is said that this place is known as the Shangri-La in Jiangnan. To this day, I am not sure what "Shangri-La" means, but the peaks here are known for their towering heights. The entire Gongyu is majestic and towering, with cliffs stretching endlessly. Each peak stands alone, forming a unique entity. The stone forest and cliffs each have their own charm. In the middle of the mountain depression hangs Gongyu Village, a primitive tribe with only a dozen households. As there are no roads, it is estimated that people have moved out of the mountains, leaving behind the original earth houses for us, the hikers, to enjoy.

Ningbo Surroundings|Xianju Gongyu Village Hiking, with Mountains, Water, and Bamboo Forests
In the depths of the mountains in Xianju, Zhejiang, there is a village that is still not accessible by road. Even mules might find it difficult to climb up. Transporting supplies relies on human carriers or small cable cars, costing 4 yuan per kilogram.
📖Itinerary:
Gongyu Village is divided into Shangping Village and Xiaping Village, collectively known as Gongyu Village.
Hidden in a bamboo forest deep in the mountains,
It is not an exaggeration to say it is isolated from the world.
It can only be reached by hiking, and it is unknown who discovered it first.
It is praised by travelers as the "last Shangri-La in East China".
Although the scenery is not as grand as the mountains and rivers on the Sichuan-Tibet Road,
The bamboo forests, small streams, lush vegetation, and comfortable weather
Provide a very friendly yet challenging experience for beginner hikers.

✅Climbing from the right fork follows the water route, offering more beautiful scenery. The left side is all steps. We chose to go up the right and down the left. The steps on the way down are a test for the knees, making us deeply realize that climbing up is easier than coming down.
✅Highlights along the way:
Ancient paths, small streams, bamboo forests, rocks, vines. Walking and stopping, going up and down, the scenery is quiet and not tiring.
Possibly due to the off-season, there were no small shops or farm stays along the way.
🏠Accommodation Recommendations:
Shangping Village and Xiaping Village are a few hundred meters apart, both have places to stay. Local people have converted their houses. Prices are per person. If you need to bring camping gear up the mountain for heavy-duty hiking, you can ask villagers to use the small cable car (for a fee) at the hiking entrance.
✏️Practical Tips: ♻️♻️♻️
Along the way, we saw a lot of trash left by hikers. Since you can carry your backpack up, please take the empty bottles, cans, and food packaging back down in your backpack. The mountain path is difficult, and the villagers are very simple. Their lives are already hard enough. Do they have to clean up the trash for everyone?
We hope everyone can maintain the free hiking route well. Don't wait until it starts charging and then complain.

The last 'Shangri-La' in East China: Gongbu
Gongbu scenic area is known for its towering presence, with the entire Gongbu standing majestically, creating an imposing atmosphere. Cliffs connect to cliffs, stretching endlessly, with each peak standing independently, forming its own entity. The stone forest cliffs each have their own charm. The main attractions include: Ke Jiusi's former residence; Twenty-four Lang; Gongbu Cliff; Bamboo Forest; Dragon Waterfall; Twin Lions Guarding the Heavenly Gate; Dragon Mother Cave; Flagpole Rock; and Little Dragon Gate.
Gongbu scenic area borders the Thirteen Cities scenic area and is close to the Xianju's Fairy Dwelling and Jingxing Rock. Along with Danzhu and Thirteen Cities, it is one of the five major scenic areas in Xianju, known as the 'Shangri-La of East China.' Gongbu Village is located in the Tian Market town area of Xianju, situated at an altitude of 600 meters. It is a high mountain village divided into Upper Ping and Lower Ping, forming one administrative village with the branch office located in Lower Ping. Surrounded by peculiar peaks with altitudes around 1000 meters, the village is nestled in a small basin formed by the mountains. Climbing up the back of Gongbu to the south of the village, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery. Gongbu features a volcanic lava landform with complete vertical development, exposed rock bodies, and many independent stone pillars concentrated in distribution. The average height of these pillars is about 200 meters, with richly shaped and lifelike formations.
Gongbu Rock is located on the south side of Gongbu Ridge in Xianju, Zhejiang. It is a giant east-west cliff, 1200 meters long and 150-200 meters high, with steep walls and a majestic presence. There is a colorful and smooth collapsed remnant on the lower west side, with the upper part protruding and sheltering from rain, the middle part rich in texture resembling cliff carvings, and the top part flat, possibly a remnant ancient planation surface. The cliff stands abruptly and isolated on the hillside, deep and heavy. From the side, it appears thin as a blade, with many changes, shifting shapes, resembling a large crocodile or a rhinoceros, embodying the beauty of 'looking like a ridge from the front and a peak from the side.'
The beautiful bamboo forest can be seen in each scenic area, ranging from needle-like small to tree-like large, tall and graceful, especially the Danzhu.
Within the Gongbu scenic area, the mountains are full of graceful bamboo, beloved by literati, poets, and tourists. Nurtured by nature and subtly influenced by the environment, generations of literati and poets have created many bamboo-themed poems and paintings. The 'Ink Bamboo Painting' and 'Bamboo Manual' by the painter Ke Jiusi are expressions of his long-standing affection for this place. The charm and elegance of the bamboo are enchanting.
To the east of the Dragon Mother Cave on Flagpole Rock, there is a solitary column peak about 100 meters high. From the south, it looks like a single-standing flag, while from the north, it resembles a round mushroom top.
The Dragon Waterfall is located within the Gongbu scenic area, upstream of the former Xiaxi Village, with an elegant environment and peculiar creek stones. The waterfall has four folds and three pools, reaching a height of seventy to eighty meters. Each fold and each pool has its own unique scenery. The first fold is over 20 meters, with water cascading like a flying horse and spraying like shattered jade, pouring down like cold ice; the middle section is over 40 meters, with an arc-shaped curtain, sounding like thunder, resembling a silver dragon, shooting pearls and splashing jade, like a thousand yards of white silk hanging into a round, 10-meter-deep blue pool; the third fold flows gracefully into the embrace of giant rocks, slowly winding down into the three pools, meandering and slender, with water trickling away. Below the waterfall, with the rising columns, listening to the waterfall sound, watching the waterfall view, and bathing in the waterfall mist, one truly feels refreshed and delighted.

Gongyu Village in Xianju, Taizhou, Zhejiang, is a hidden paradise that has not yet been connected by road
A secluded paradise hidden in Xianju, Taizhou, Zhejiang, it is only accessible by a 2-hour hike as there are no roads leading to it. Known as the 'Shangri-La of East China', it is a breathtaking secret haven that refreshes the soul.
Gongyu Village is located in Xianju, Taizhou, Zhejiang. Admission is free, and the way to get there is to drive to Qiankeng Village and then hike up the mountain. Be sure to prepare enough dry food and water, as there are supplies in the village, but the options are limited. A full day of hiking can be really exhausting, so be sure to choose a comfortable accommodation to rest well!
Hiking along the stream towards Gongyu Village, you will occasionally need to cross the stream and hop on stones, enjoying the fun of nature. In the embrace of the wild, plants grow wildly, forming small forests that make you feel as if you are in a fairyland.
Upon arriving at the village, take a short rest before continuing to the back of Gongyu, where you will see magnificent scenery with towering peaks and terraced fields. The village is isolated from the world, resembling a paradise on earth that makes visitors linger and forget to return.
Gongyu Village's scenery has no relation to Shangri-La city, but it can be called the 'Shangri-La of East China' because the village is secluded and nestled in a secret spot beneath the mountains. Hiking into the village allows one's spiritual world to be elevated through exploration and to become one with nature.

The last Shangri-La in Jiangnan--Xianju
Gongyu, known as "the last Shangri-La in Jiangnan". It is surrounded by strange peaks on all sides, with the altitude of the peak around 1000 meters, and the village is located in a small basin surrounded by mountains. Climbing up the back of Gongyu Rock in the south of the village, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. Gongyu Mountain is majestic, with complex and diverse terrain, mainly volcanic lava, with well-developed joints, horizontal cliffs, forming a belt-shaped volcanic platform, supplemented by Danxia landform collapses, forming various strange peaks, the most famous of which is the east-west direction, 1200 meters long, 150-200 meters high, giant cliffs, glittering under the sun, like a golden mountain.
The Gongyu scenic area in Xianju is known for its majesty. The whole Gongyu stands tall and majestic, with cliffs connected to cliffs, stretching endlessly, each peak standing alone, each with its own charm. Tens of thousands of creatures are vigorous, waiting for your praise.
D1: Shanghai-Xianju County-Qiankeng-Gongyu Village
The whole hiking route is about 10km, which is quite comfortable to walk, not very strenuous. After arriving at Gongmeng Village in the afternoon, you can camp and stay. You can choose a farmhouse room or set up a tent. I suggest setting up a tent, because the conditions of the farmhouse are really poor. The villages are relatively concentrated, so you can walk around more before dark.
You can also participate in a bonfire party at the farmhouse in the evening, which is very lively.
D2: Gongyu Village-Gongyu Rock-Qiankeng (end point)-Shanghai
The whole route on the second day is also about 10km. If you want to watch the sunrise, you need to get up very early and climb to the top of Gongyu Rock. This section of the road is difficult, especially the final ascent requires the help of a rope to climb up, the angle is basically 90 degrees. The weather was not good on the day we went, it was raining all the time, but everyone still wanted to try their luck and rush to the top. As a result, as soon as we got up, the sky cleared up, and the feeling of seeing the sun through the clouds was immediate. After a crazy shooting, the clouds covered up again, and we hurried down the mountain. On the way down the mountain, it was basically heavy rain, and the whole body was soaked, but it was very refreshing.
❤️A few pieces of advice:
1. If you are a clean freak, don't come, the sanitary environment is really average!
2. Be sure to come during the bayberry season, you can eat the freshest bayberries on the mountain, it's really delicious.
3. Be sure to bring a raincoat and change of clothes.

This place is not well known. It is far from the world and is called "Shangri-La of East China."
Gongmeng Village is divided into Shangping Village and Xiaping Village. They are small villages located at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level, surrounded by peaks of more than 1,000 meters. Here you can see the stone pillars formed by the volcanic lava landforms; the lush summer terraces in the autumn and the golden stars in the autumn; The people who go to the public are mostly on foot and campers. There are poor farmhouses in the village that offer accommodation and simple dining. You may wish to have a bowl of chicken and drink a bowl of farm-brewed bayberry wine cellar.
