The whole ordeal: - A week before departure, landslides and mudslides hit the Siguniang Mountain area (not the Genie route), and Xiaohongshu already had posts about road collapses and poor conditions on the Genie South Line. - The afternoon we headed to Genie, a small mudslide and collapse occurred on our planned route, forcing our driver to detour. - About 10 days after returning home, the Yakang Expressway collapsed. **Day 2:** A mudslide blocked the road to our homestay, so the driver took an alternate route. With unpredictable weather and road conditions (Tibetan climate is erratic—we even saw snow in July), we moved the Genie Eye visit (originally Day 3) to Day 2. - Saw breathtaking scenery—truly stunning—but also faced dangerous roads that tested our drivers' skills (both were ex-military and highly skilled, but even they found it risky that day!!). - Made it to Genie Eye, returned to the homestay at 9 PM without dinner. - Skipped Ranrika Village's festival and bonfire party due to the adjusted schedule. **Day 3:** Poor road conditions and rain forced us to turn back. However, you can go to Jinchuan to see pear blossoms, or Yuzixi and Gunong Village to see the sunset over the snowy mountains. 😘Here are some tips for traveling in Western Sichuan. I hope they can help you~ Tip 1: Don't be lazy! Moisturize! It's very dry here! The wind in Western Sichuan can dry you out. It can even temporarily cure the rheumatism of people from Guangdong! Tip 2: Don't exercise for a month before you go. Don't exercise at all⚠. Take Rhodiola a few days in advance, and bring motion sickness medicine and patches. Take them as soon as you get in the car. Tip 3: Some places may not have a signal, so keep some cash on you for using the toilet. Many toilets in Western Sichuan are in poor condition, so be prepared. Tip 4: Bring a bottle of cola to Western Sichuan, and drink it a little at a time. It's very effective in relieving altitude sickness! Tip 5: When you're on the plateau, don't push yourself. Don't exercise vigorously, don't get too excited, and don't move suddenly. Slow down your movements. Not having altitude sickness at first doesn't mean you'll never get it. Tip 6: Don't bring squeezable tube toiletries. The low air pressure at high altitudes will cause them to swell. The moment you open the cap is the moment they'll explode!! If you bring them, turn the tubes upside down, shake them hard, gently squeeze out the air inside, and then tighten the cap. That should do the trick. 🌈Highlights: Gedilamu is a lesser-known attraction in Ganzi, Sichuan. Standing on the mountain top, you can see the snow-capped mountains in the distance and the blue sky at an altitude of 4,200 meters. It is a hidden gem in western Sichuan and a place to cleanse your soul. 🚗Transportation: This is not a developed attraction. It is more than 40 km from National Highway 318 and Zheduo Mountain. You need to drive 5 km on an unpaved road (gravel road) with curves and climb the mountain from Provincial Highway 434. There is no public transportation to get here. You can only drive or charter a car, or find a small group. Note ⚠️⚠️ Although it is close to Yuzixi, the two places are about 5 km apart and are not connected. You cannot go from Gedilamu to Yuzixi. 👍️Fees: There is a barrier and a booth at the entrance, and the fee is CNY 30 per person. Gedilamu (4,100m) is a highland located south of Tagong Grassland. To the east, a valley of grassland was seen. To the south and southeast, rolling mountains all the way to the horizon, were observed. Snow mountains could be seen at the horizon. During autumn (2024), orange grasslands were seen here and from here. #china #sichuan #ganzi #naturalwonders #thingstodo The valley to the east had wide expanse of orange grassland, with patches of yellow, red, brown and green vegetation at the bottom of the valley, with belts of roads and rivers. These rolling mountains were mainly of red and brown. From Gedilamu, three major snow mountains can be seen, however during my visit, two had shyly covered up behind thick cloud layers. These two are the Yala Snow Mountain (northeast) and Qingrao Holy Mountain (east northeast). At the southeast horizon, were snow-covered mountain peaks of the great Gongga Mountain. Excitedly, Gongga Mountain was not covered up by clouds, the highest peaks were seen slightly poking into the clouds above. Combination of the grassland here, with valley and/or rolling mountains seen from here, and snow mountains of afar, is what made Gedilamu so pretty, and a desirable location for zoom-in portrait photography and landscape photography. Gedilamu is often included as one of the destinations in Daocheng Yading tours. It is also one of the attractions found in the vicinity of Xinduqiao municipal, notably the one which is found south of Tagong Grassland and north northeast of Yuzixi. Yuzixi is only a short distance away, thus both Gedilamu and Yuzixi are often visited one after another. A stretch of road before the attraction was non-paved, very bumpy and windy, so a bit of adventure was needed to reach here.
