Fukuoka Half-Day Citywalk, don't miss this beautiful coastal route
Returning to Fukuoka City from Futamigaura, it was still early, so I looked at the map and decided to take a Citywalk along the coastline, connecting several of Fukuoka's notable spots. It was actually quite worthwhile, as Fukuoka is the kind of city where you can relax and just wander around.
·
🔀Route
Washio Atago Shrine → Atago Bridge → Seaside Momochi Beach Park → Fukuoka Tower → Fukuoka City Museum
·
🚇Transportation
Take the subway Kūkō Line to Muromi Station, then walk 20 minutes to Washio Atago Shrine.
·
📸Highlights
✅Washio Atago Shrine: One of the oldest shrines in Fukuoka and one of Japan's three major Atago Shrines. After exiting the subway station, you need to walk up the road to the mountain. The mountain is not very high, but there is a slightly steep section. Along the way, there are charming houses and hydrangeas. The shrine itself is not very remarkable, but its location serves as an observation deck where you can overlook the entire city of Fukuoka, especially the coastal scenery along Fukuoka Tower. After visiting, you can descend from the other side and continue walking towards Fukuoka Tower. The streets along the way are quiet, and with the blue sky like in a manga, it's very picturesque.
✅Atago Bridge: Not really a tourist spot, but it's the estuary of the Muromi River with a wide view. Some people fish under the bridge. After crossing Atago Bridge, there's a coastal walking path where many locals jog.
✅Momochi Seaside Park: A section of artificial beach along the coast, the best angle to photograph Fukuoka Tower. Many young people gather and play beach volleyball here, and there are carp streamers fluttering in the wind. It's a very relaxing place, and the pier extending from the beach gives off a dazzling European vibe.
✅Fukuoka Tower: One of Fukuoka City's iconic buildings, built with 8,000 single-sided mirrors and a unique equilateral triangular shape, hence also known as the "Mirror Sail." However, from an intuitive perspective, I think it looks more like a skyscraper than a tower. Fukuoka Tower was built in 1989 to commemorate the "Asia-Pacific Expo" held that year. It stands 234 meters tall, making it the tallest seaside tower in Japan. From the 123-meter-high observation room, you can get a panoramic view of Fukuoka City and Hakata Bay.
✅Fukuoka City Museum: The main exhibition halls are on the second floor, including the Permanent Exhibition Room, Planning Exhibition Room, and Special Exhibition Room. The museum's treasure is the "Gold Seal of the King of Na of the Han Dynasty," a representative of early Sino-Japanese exchanges. What impressed me more was the huge float of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa in the hall.

The views from the observation deck at 123 meters high (403 feet) are spectacular! And there are instagrammable spots at the 116 meter floor including a heart-shaped arch (they even provide you with a perch for your phone about 15 feet away for the perfect selfie). Definitely 5 stars for the views. However, there are only two elevators available, and I wish they were both larger and faster because the queue to get up took at least 20 minutes.

Fukuoka Tower Stamps!
Fukuoka Tower is such a great visit! If you are an avid stamp collector across Japan, this is a fun spot! I found two stamps, one in the observation area and another on ground level near the convenience store (directly across upon entering the building). They both come with a page to stamp but I only took the observation deck stamp on paper. Both are also in my stamp book!! #trip #fukuoka #fukuokatrip #japan #japantravel

There are so many ways to enjoy a trip to Fukuoka Tower in Japan
Fukuoka Tower, standing at 234 meters, is known as the tallest seaside tower in Japan. As a symbol of the western sub-city center of Fukuoka, it has a straight equilateral triangle appearance covered with 8000 mirror windows, also known as the "Glass Sea Ship". The panoramic view of Fukuoka from the 5th floor observatory at 123 meters high is exquisite, and it is also equipped with the latest screen telescope. In addition, every Tanabata and Christmas, the neon lights on the mirror windows of Fukuoka Tower are colorful, adding to the charm of the fascinating night view, which is impressive. The first floor is equipped with specialty areas for Hakata famous fruit cakes and cod roe, as well as bakeries, cafes, and European restaurants.
In the evening, there are lights on the ceiling and floor in one corner, but it's best not to wear white clothes, which will turn into a weird color.

【That year, Costa Cruise 🚢 to Japan (4)】
Fukuoka is not big. The tourist bus connecting the cruise ship quickly took us to the highest point in the city, and also the tallest seaside tower in Japan, Fukuoka Tower.
Fukuoka Tower was built in 1989, the tower is 234 meters high, it was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Fukuoka City and the grand event of the Asia-Pacific Expo. The tower body is composed of more than 8,000 semi-reflective glass 'mirror sails', reflecting the mountain and sea cityscape of Fukuoka day and night - I have seen Fukuoka tourism promotional videos before: during the day it is sky blue and sea blue, at night you can see the city's thousands of lights projected on the tower, like a street in the sky, and like a dragon flashing... It is said that on holidays such as the Cherry Blossom Festival, Tanabata, Christmas and New Year, there will be creative light shows on the 8,000 glass 'mirror sails', neon lights are colorful and beautiful... Unfortunately, we didn't have the chance to see it this time, we can only look forward to the next time!
