📍Location and Transportation
Wayanad is located in the northern part of Kerala, India, surrounded by mountains, and easily accessible. From Bangalore, it takes about 6-7 hours by bus. 🚍 Along the way, you can enjoy the unique rural scenery of South India. If you choose to drive, the winding mountain roads can be a bit challenging, but the scenery outside the window will definitely captivate you, as if you've entered a green fairy tale world.
🏠Accommodation Recommendations
Jungle Resorts: Hidden deep in the forest, the rooms are mostly made of wood, blending perfectly with nature. Wake up to the singing of birds in the morning, open the door to breathe in the freshest air, and feel embraced by nature. The facilities are also very comprehensive, including open-air swimming pools, forest spas, etc., averaging 5,000-8,000 INR per night per person. It's a fantastic experience! 👍
Tea Plantation Homestays: Located among lush tea plantations, staying here allows you to not only admire the endless green tea gardens but also experience the fun of tea picking and making with the tea farmers, gaining a deeper understanding of Indian tea culture. The rooms are warmly decorated, costing 3,000-5,000 INR per night. It's super cost-effective, like living in a painting.
🌟Must-See Attractions
Edakkal Caves: This is the most mysterious place in Wayanad! Inside the caves are ancient rock paintings, said to be traces of prehistoric civilizations. Stepping into the caves is like traveling through time and having a dialogue with ancient times. On the way up to the caves, you can also overlook the magnificent valley scenery. The entrance fee is only 30-50 INR, but you'll gain a priceless and awe-inspiring experience.
Banasura Sagar Dam: You will be amazed by the majesty of this dam. The huge reservoir formed by the dam has emerald green water, surrounded by mountains, offering breathtaking views. Especially in the early morning or evening, the golden sunlight sprinkles on the water, creating a shimmering, fairyland-like scene. It's free and a perfect spot for taking photos. 📷
Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary: A paradise for animal lovers! Here, you have the opportunity to see rare wild animals such as elephants, tigers, and leopards up close. Take an open-top jeep through the sanctuary and experience the wildness and vitality of nature. The entrance fee is 200-300 INR, and jeep rental is separate, but this adventure is definitely worth the price.
🍱Food Exploration
Pothys Restaurant: This restaurant specializes in local Kerala cuisine. You must try their traditional dish "Appam," soft rice pancakes paired with rich coconut curry. One bite brings pure bliss. Also try "Malabar Parotta," crispy and multi-layered, dipped in special sauce. It's simply divine! 😋
Wild Grass Restaurant: With a tranquil environment, the ingredients are mostly sourced from local farms, fresh and healthy. Their signature dish, "Bamboo Chicken," is roasted in bamboo tubes, giving it a unique bamboo aroma. The dessert "Payasam" is sweet but not greasy, warm and delicious. The dining atmosphere is super pleasant.
