Prettier than expected!
#familytravel
We visited the city of Baku as part of our family getaway. It was clubbed with one more country cos I wasn't sure if Azerbaijan would have enough. This was a holiday in mid August. Azerbaijan had been trending online and had favourable reviews, but an absolute foreign for me as we had never visited thus part of the world.
We flew in from Dubai. The arrival experience was comfortable. The city was prettier than what I expected. I was worried that it would be just mosques and religious theme. But surprisingly that wasn't the case. It's a beautifully planned place with wide and clean roadways, lush green gardens along with elevated buildings that had eye catching architecture. I noticed a lot of people preferred travelling on foot.
Baku is rightly referred to as the city of winds. I can't remember any other place that I have been to and was so windy all the time.
Day 1 mostly involved taking it easy and exploring the hotel offerings, the spa and the complimentary Hammam. Once relaxed and we'll rested. In the evening we set out to see the The Flame tower which is a combination of three standalone buildings each comprising of a luxury hotel, a residential building and an office. The height of the tallest towers amongst the three is 182 meters. The Flame Towers are completely covered with the LED screens that display the movement of a fire visible from the farthest points of the city. The light show transitions from giant flames and the colours of the Azeri flag.
Day 2 we headed to explore the fascinating old town. It had small alleys and open cafes. The old town of Baku was also laden with tree art, graffiti and local handmade handicrafts, carpets and shawls prepared by the local Azeri artists. The locals there are not only adept in making the carpets and handicrafts but also creating human sculptures which you would see in various parts of the city.
Day 3 visit Yanar Dag which also means Burning mountain in Azerbaijani language. It is a natural gas fire which blazes continuously on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula on the Caspian Sea near Baku. This was followed with Baku astagah in surakhani.
The day ended with a nice azerbaijani meal as on most days. #familytravel #100waysoftravel #baku #azerbaijan #flowerlover

Crossing the Eurasian continent, Azerbaijan Baku~
A big oil city, more than 50% of the oil in the former Soviet Union came from here, so it is very rich~ It is close to the Caspian Sea, and the climate and scenery are very good~

Arrived in Baku at 12:30 am, caught the last airport bus, went to the old city, and walked 2 km to the hostel in the middle of the night

The Juma Mosque is a historic mosque with a courtyard with a fountain. The chandeliers and round arches on the ceiling are very beautiful.
The Khan's Palace was built in 1797 and is still well preserved. The special thing about this palace is that it does not use any nails, and it preserves the murals and various artistic features of the time. A large area uses colorful mosaic glass. When the sun shines into the palace, it is a colorful beauty, a beautiful and colorful world.
The ancient Silk Road post station has a history of more than 300 years and is still used as a post station. In 2019, it was rated as a World Cultural Heritage by the United Nations.

The 'Flame Towers' burn in the 'City of Oil,' Azerbaijan
Measuring the 'Garden forgotten by God' with footsteps, Caucasus 🚞 Station 37 ▪️ Country 42 🇦🇿𝐀𝐳𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐢𝐣𝐚𝐧☆ Azerbaijan ▶️ The Azerbaijani people worship 'fire,' and the country's name 'Azərbaycan' originates from the Persian language, meaning 'Country of Fire'. The 'Flame Towers' are the landmark buildings of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and the design of the skyscrapers in the shape of flames is a reflection of the Azerbaijani people's fire worship complex. The Flame Towers in Baku can be seen from any angle of the city. They are located on the top of a hillside next to the old city, with three buildings together forming the shape of flames, hence the name Flame Towers; due to the irregular design of the flame-shaped curved surface, the buildings shimmer in the sunlight.
Best photo spots:
① Near the 'Carpet Museum' in the new city, you can take a distant view of the Flame Towers (Pictures 1-2);
② Near the 'Shirvanshahs' Palace' in the old city, you can take a photo of the palace exterior and the Flame Towers together (Pictures 3-5);
③ The viewing platform in Highland Park offers an unobstructed panoramic view (Pictures 6-7).
In addition, Highland Park is also the best viewpoint in the city to overlook the Caspian Sea, with the beautiful scenery of the 'sea' coastline at a glance!
