[Tunisia] El Jem Amphitheatre
#overseastraveltrip
El Djem is an amphitheater with a seating capacity of 35,000, sometimes mistakenly called the Colosseum. Of the 25 remaining amphitheaters in Tunisia, El Djem is said to be the best preserved, even surpassing the one in Rome.
If you follow the flow of people from the bus stop in the city, you will soon see El Djem. When you see it in person, you will be impressed by its grandeur. It is extremely impressive.
El Djem was one of the richest cities in the African territory of the Roman Empire, and flourished in the 2nd century. Many magnificent mosaics made when citizens built luxurious mansions are now on display in the museum along with the remains of their homes.
