The God of Wealth once fished by the lake, and these waters are too good for attracting wealth
Ningbo's suburban area boasts a picturesque lake known as Dongqian Lake, which is said to have been a fishing spot for the God of Wealth, Fan Li, hence the lake is also imbued with an abundance of wealth vibes. Water can gather wealth, and taking some leisure time to visit the Dongqian Lake Tourist Resort might just rub some good fortune off on you.
Dongqian Lake is located about fifteen kilometers east of Ningbo city and is the largest natural freshwater lake in Zhejiang Province, twice the size of the famous West Lake in Hangzhou.
The lake has a dike, stretching 4 kilometers from east to west, dividing the lake into two parts. Surrounded by mountains, seventy-two streams converge here, forming a huge natural reservoir. In times of drought, the sluice gates are opened to irrigate the farmlands of Fenghua, Yinzhou, and Zhenhai, which span eight villages, and it also serves as a freshwater aquaculture base, hence it is also known as Wanjin Lake. Dongqian Lake originally had ten scenic spots including Taogong Fishing Rock, Yu Xiang Book Tower, Hundred Steps Soaring Green, Xiayu Locking Mist, Double Rainbows Falling Colors, Er Ling Evening Glow, Shanglin Morning Bell, Reed Bed Roosting Geese, Yin Bay Fishing Lights, and White Stone Fairy Terrace.
Within the Dongqian Lake scenic area lies a place called Little Putuo, also known as Xiayu, located on Xiayu Island at the center of the vast and misty Dongqian Lake. A 2-kilometer-long heart-of-the-lake dike stretches like a rainbow lying on the waves, connecting the eight scenic spots of the lake's heart including Qianti Misty Waves, Taogong Fishing Rock, Breezy Fragrant Osmanthus, Clear Lake Bright Moon, Er Ling Skimming Shadows, Xiayu Locking Mist, Putuo Heaven, and Mountain Monk Calling Boats. The existing South Song Dynasty relics, Xiayu Zen Temple and Guanyin Cave, have a history of over 800 years.
