I went to the Daxi Old Tea Factory in Taoyuan, a black tea factory just a little over an hour's drive from Taipei! The factory, which has been in use since the Japanese colonial period, is still in operation, and the beautifully renovated factory is captivating. When I went, guided tours were held twice a day, and the staff explained the history and machines very carefully. Even if you don't understand Chinese, there are explanations written in Japanese in front of the main exhibits, so you don't have to worry.
