[Solo female travel in Sri Lanka] 3 gourmet choices to enjoy in the World Heritage city of Galle
Galle is a World Heritage city. There are many stylish restaurants, so it's perfect for solo female travelers! Here are three restaurants where you can enjoy delicious food 🫶
[Dairy King]
An ice cream shop with a pink exterior. The homemade coconut ice cream was delicious! It was more like shaved coconut that had been cooled and solidified, and I ate it all up in one go. The kind grandma who worked there was also charming. It's a wonderful ice cream shop.
[Coconut Sambol]
It may have been the most delicious curry I've ever had in my life.
I went there just before 11 o'clock and there was only one customer. The curry was being prepared, so I ordered a glass of ginger beer and waited. I think it was about 600 Sri Lankan rupees a glass. Although it was called beer, it was non-alcoholic, and had a slightly sour, ginger-like carbonated taste, and it was very delicious.
The owner explained each part of the finished curry to me. The rice was not the long, thin, and flaky texture that is common in Sri Lanka, but round and juicy rice. It has a light coconut scent and is so delicious that you can eat as many bowls as you want.
The curry contains several kinds of fruits such as passion fruit, so it is refreshing and super fruity! It is almost not spicy. This fruity taste is addictive. The coconut sambol, which is also the name of the restaurant, is super delicious, the stir-fried cabbage is a great accent, and the curry contains many vegetables such as potatoes and okra, and is a little rich but the taste is just right. The chicken curry is very juicy and tender. If you put it all on rice and mix it, you will be hooked on the curry of this restaurant. I was full after two bowls, but I wanted to eat more... This is a restaurant that you should definitely visit if you come to Galle! Curry and ginger beer cost 2,400 Sri Lankan rupees.
[AQUA Pizza]
I was impressed to be able to eat high-quality Neapolitan-style pizza! The price is relatively reasonable (although it is expensive by Sri Lankan standards), but the dough is chewy and fragrant! The Regina I ordered had a combination of fresh tomatoes and mozzarella that was so tasty I couldn't stop eating it, and I ended up finishing the whole pizza by myself. The atmosphere is great and it's a highly recommended restaurant. I would especially recommend it to anyone who likes Neapolitan-style pizza.
All the restaurants are great, so be sure to check them out when you go to Gal!
