Cool art village
Shenzhen has several art communities and creative spaces, but the most popular and well known one is undoubtedly Dafen Oil Painting Village in Longgang District. In a bustling city like Shenzhen it can sometimes be hard to know where to go during a day off, especially if you don’t fancy a hike or park that day (probably the two most popular things to do during free time). Dafen Oil Painting Village provides the opportunity to have a nice walk, get some fresh air and soak in some culture at the same time.
Founded in 1989 by a Hong Kong businessman it has expanded to include over 700 local businesses and art outlets as well as thousands of local artists. At one point the village produced over 60% of the world’s oil paintings.
Walking around here you can see virtually every type of painting style from abstract to impressionism and all the ones in between. Many of these are in small studios which you can browse around in and look at the art undisturbed by the owner. Some of the art is done in the little alleys between buildings, where the artists are in their zone, focused on a picture from an iPad, making a flawless reproduction or two. You can stand and watch as magic happens in front of you.
The art is incredibly cheap to buy here, with small pieces starting at 30RMB. With so many vendors negotiating is quite possible so make sure you get the best deal possible. You can also bring with you any picture/photograph and they can make an oil reproduction on any size canvas you want. This can make for an excellent gift. For a few hundred Yuan you can commission an artist to copy your favorite piece of art, your wedding photo, or photos of your family. Insist on “A” quality – it costs a little more but it’s worth it. You can also get incredibly rapid framing while you wait and inexpensive art supplies
The buildings themselves are also a joy to look at, with pastel tones and graffiti murals this is like an art walk, seeing what you can spot next. The narrow alleyways give a great feeling of exploration as you never know what you will see around the corner. Even the kindergarten has an artistic vibe to it! The village maintains is authentic feeling by the lack of chain businesses here, no Starbucks or KFC to be seen.
This is a refreshing thing to see in a city of shopping malls and clone stores. If you get time, check out the ‘Art Space Café’ this coffee shop is practically a gallery in its own right, and many people come here to work in solitude or just to take pictures
As well as the smaller galleries and stalls there is a large art museum to see. Spread over 2 floors this houses a large and ever-changing set of exhibitions, usually by local artists. This is a clean, modern museum and is definitely worth checking it out if you are in the area.
Overall I feel Dafen Oil Painting Village makes for a great day away from the city centre, it’s suitable for solo traveler.

Relic of Old Dafen village
As i was roaming around this painting village, I stumble along this old weathered entrance doors on the south part of the Dafen Oil Painting village. It really looks old. Rustic and so much character so i thought i can photograph it.
Red bricks on the wall, Those old lanterns hanging. Worn-out roofs. That ancient-looking door entrance thats so inviting to look upon to.
It is situated just beside Sunrise Art Center.
Patrons used it as background for their selfies. And again, as the millenials says, very instagrammable. 😍✌️🙄

DAFEN ~~~ The world`s art factory!
Populary known as the "world`s oil painting factory", in its haydey Dafen produced 60 percent of all new oil paintings available worldwide.
More than 20 years, Dafen Oil Painting village in Dafen, Longgang district, Shenzhen in the south of China has been the center of global trade in art reproductions.
This little suburb of Shenzhen in Guangdong province, Dafen became.associated with oil painting in 1980`s when Huang Jiang, a painter and businessman from Hongkong took up.residency in the village. He brought other painters and students with him and started painting and selling their masterpieces. From then on, up to this day, Dafen village became a bustling city.

At one time Dafen Oil Painting village produced most of the paintings sold in Western big box stores. That isn't as true today, but you can certainly still find artists who will reproduce your own photos into family art pieces. There is also now an art museum located there. #merrychristmas #dafenart

Colorful Village: An Artistic Stroll Through Dafen Oil Painting Village
Stepping into Dafen Oil Painting Village feels like opening a door to an artistic world. The alleys are filled with the fragrance of oil paint, and the walls are adorned with various paintings, from delicate reproductions of classical masterpieces to free-spirited modern styles, all brimming with endless creativity and vitality.
The village is lined with galleries, each shop serving as a stage for artists. The deep emotions in their brushstrokes and the interplay of light and shadow tell the stories of the painters. Occasionally, you might find an artist sitting quietly in a corner, focused on their work, with the scenery on the canvas seemingly ready to spill out from the flat surface, making it hard for onlookers to leave.
As you reach the small square, the lively atmosphere of the art market greets you. Handicrafts, oil painting accessories, and live performances of art creation are all eye-opening. Sunlight shines on the colorful canvases, making the entire village look like a flowing painting.
Dafen Oil Painting Village is not only a paradise for art lovers but also a place that can awaken the artistic dreams within. Here, every world within a frame is mesmerizing, and the village itself is an unparalleled piece of art.

Trip to Shenzhen, China 🇨🇳
It was a trip to Shenzhen, China. We started our journey at Splendid China Folk Village, an incredible miniature park that showcases China’s rich heritage. Walking through, we explored miniature landmarks, vibrant ethnic villages, and cultural performances. The park is a photographer’s paradise with colorful backdrops and intricate detailing. I recommend visiting in the late morning ⛅️ for soft natural light to capture stunning photos 📸
We also visited the Window of the World, a global cultural theme park where we marveled at replicas of famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal. Visiting at sunset 🌅 allowed us to enjoy golden-hour photography and the illuminated displays at night. This is a must-visit for both cultural immersion and picture-perfect moments ✨
📍9003 Shennan Ave, Nanshan District, Shenzhen
Window of the World
📍9037 Shennan Blvd, Nanshan District, Shenzhen
We then visited OCT Loft Creative Culture Park, a haven for art and design enthusiasts. Its unique blend of industrial and artistic vibes makes it perfect for Instagram-worthy shots 📸 Cafes☕️ art installations, and graffiti walls create countless opportunities for creative photography 📸 I recommend arriving early ⛅️ to avoid crowds and to capture the morning light hitting the walls.
In the afternoon, we visited Lianhua Mountain Park, a tranquil green space with a panoramic view of the city skyline. The highlight was hiking to the top to see the iconic Deng Xiaoping statue, surrounded by lush greenery. I’d recommend coming in the late afternoon 🌇 when the golden hour enhances the skyline photos.

We also visited Dafen Oil Painting Village, where we explored charming lanes filled with art galleries and workshops. Watching artists create stunning oil paintings 🖼️ was inspiring, and the vibrant streets were perfect for photography 📸 Visiting mid-morning provided great natural light for colorful pictures 😍
In the evening, we took a leisurely stroll at Shenzhen Bay Park, a picturesque coastal promenade. The views of the water and the city lights were magical as the sun set, creating the perfect moment to capture breathtaking pictures. I would highly recommend this spot for evening relaxation and photos✨

Dafen Oil Painting Village, Shenzhen.
Dafen, Shenzhen, the largest oil painting export base in China. I haven't been here for many years. Now you can take the subway directly. In the past, you would see many art college students painting here. Now Dafen has an art museum. I saw many works by Hong Kong students exhibited in the art museum. Dafen Oil Painting Village also has many ceramic and oil painting experiences, with professional guidance. I believe it is the highest cost-effective experience learning in the world. So it attracts many children to play.
Transportation: Dafen Station, Shenzhen Metro

The first oil painting village in China →_→.
The Dafen Oil Painting Village, known as the "First Oil Painting Village in China", is truly a treasure trove.
A small village with a strong artistic atmosphere. Many small shops in the alleys. You can visit Jay Chou's wall gate, and experience projects such as:
Oil painting experience, pottery making, glass blowing
You can experience oil painting anywhere, with prices ranging from 30 to 50 yuan. Framing costs an additional 10 yuan, and there is teacher guidance. Even beginners can paint, and it takes about 1-2 hours. Very good value for money.
You can also visit exhibitions and drink coffee.
Dafen Art Museum, Blue Tiger Art Museum
The pig's feet rice near the bus stop at the entrance is delicious. Although it is an inconspicuous small shop, it is really delicious! It is recommended to go to Citywalk in the afternoon.

We went to Shenzhen for four days and visited quite a number of places. On the last day, we had no idea where to go. My daughters suggested Da Fen Oil Painting Village and it ended up a right choice. This place was very interesting and you could take instagramable pictures anywhere. They also attended a oil painting class. It was an excellent idea as we could stay in an airconditioned environment for hours at a very low cost (RMB58 each).

Shenzhen Local's Recommended Guide!!
💓I really like a saying, traveling is going from the city you live in to the city where others live.
💓This time you have come to the place where I live.
💓I will do my best to recommend to you the attractions I think are good and bad.
💓Many bloggers will recommend places like Dafen Oil Painting Village, MixC World, Gankeng Hakka Town, and Rose Town, but in my opinion, these places are not necessarily must-visit. Everyone can decide their itinerary based on their needs.
👉Dafen Oil Painting Village: The whole village is basically about oil painting, you can experience painting here. Actually, it feels like an urban village with renovated outer walls, giving it a unique flavor. It's not big, surrounded only by residential areas, and everyone inside is painting oil paintings. If you are not bringing children or have no interest in painting, I suggest you skip it. If you come here without a filter, you definitely won't feel its beauty. You can experience oil painting lessons here, but there's nothing particularly special otherwise.
👉Gankeng Hakka Town: As a scenic spot, it's okay. Why don't I recommend it? Because there's nothing inside. If you just want to see the scenery and take some photos, you can come. Older uncles and aunts might enjoy it, but younger people can skip it.
👉MixC World: For shopping and photo-taking, you can come here. The photo output rate is quite high, and at night, the elephant will spray water.
👉Rose Town: Avoid this place. There's nothing much here, and it's very small. It's mostly for people taking wedding photos. If you want to see European architecture, there aren't many here to see.
To avoid some places, let me recommend some must-visit places in Shenzhen!!
👉Happy Valley/Window of the World/Splendid China: If you're coming to Shenzhen for amusement parks, these are worth visiting.
👉Happy Harbor: Highly recommended. The main attraction here is the Ferris wheel. The best time is at sunset, but night is also good. You can take a walk here. If you're not afraid of the sun, you can come during the day.
👉Sea World: Also highly recommended. You need to reserve more time for this place. There are many things to do here, and there are many old snack shops nearby. You can see the landmark Minghua ship here, which has food, drinks, and great views. The prices are high, and you can also watch the fountain show.
👉Yangmeikeng: The seas in Shenzhen are generally the same. Dameisha is crowded with poor water quality, and the others have similar issues. For those who want to go to the beach, I recommend Yangmeikeng or Jidiao Beach. Yangmeikeng is the filming location for the movie 'The Mermaid,' so I recommend it first.
👉Xianhu Botanical Garden: The downside is that there's an entrance fee, but everything else is great. When life in Shenzhen isn't going well, you might think about going to Xianhu to pray. This thought makes me recommend it. The scenery is beautiful and great for photos, and you can pray for good weather in the future.
👉Dapeng Ancient City: It's very commercialized inside, so I don't really recommend it. But since many tourist spots have ancient cities, I'll recommend it. Older people might enjoy it, and there's also Nan'ao nearby for seafood and sea views. Young people can head straight to Nan'ao.
Due to space limitations, I'll recommend these places for now. You can't visit all these places in one day, so I suggest reserving more time for your trip to Shenzhen. Shenzhen is very close to Hong Kong, so I recommend visiting Hong Kong as well. I have guides for Hong Kong and Macau on my homepage, so you can check them out.
If you're still unclear after reading this, you can message me or comment below, and I'll answer them one by one. If you want to come, you can contact me for car services or to help customize your travel route.

Dafen Oil Painting Village in Shenzhen, a deep experience of the dopamine in the oil painting community
✅ About Dafen Oil Painting Village
Located in Longgang, Shenzhen, Dafen Oil Painting Village is the most artistic cultural district in Shenzhen, the largest oil painting trading center in China, known as 'China's No.1 Oil Painting Village', and also a replica factory for world-famous paintings.
-
The first time I stepped into Dafen Oil Painting Village was in 2013, when the artistic atmosphere of the village was thicker than it is now. In front of the shops and down the alleys, there were painters at work. Today, they have been replaced by tourists experiencing oil painting. As you pass by, every shop owner will ask: 'Would you like to experience oil painting? There's air conditioning, and teachers to guide you.'
-
They have disappeared, unable to coexist with dreams in the torrent of the times.
-
✅ About Oil Painting Experience
Each gallery charges slightly differently, and the fees for different sizes of canvases also vary, generally between 20 to 80 yuan, with teacher guidance. If you have time, why not sit down and paint a piece.
-
✅ Dafen Art Museum
Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday 9:30—17:00
Closed on: Closed every Monday
There are irregular exhibitions, for detailed exhibition information, please follow the official WeChat account

Shenzhen | The Underrated Tourist City!!!
I heard that going to Shenzhen for tourism would be laughed at🫨
So I chose to go to Shenzhen
This is simply a wise and surprising decision‼️
No crowded throngs of people
No public transportation that you can't squeeze into
No sky-high prices or ground-sitting price hikes
Only a leisurely pace and a romantic sky every day🌅
Only endless sweet soups and morning tea🫖
Only now do I realize how beautiful Shenzhen's sea is, isn't it too late?🌊

Sun Mountain Art Center
The Sun Mountain Art Center, located within the historic Dafen Oil Painting Village, fully showcases the accumulation of years in its architectural appearance. It ingeniously integrates the essence of Huizhou, Hakka, and Suzhou garden design, presenting a unique traditional Chinese building to the viewers.
Upon entering the art center, the first thing that catches the eye is a weathered wall that silently tells the weight of history. The stone rollers in the courtyard come in various shapes, and the old-fashioned furniture exudes a nostalgic charm, each piece seemingly telling a story of art.
Stepping into the multifunctional hall, the classical Chinese furniture and the garden view outside the floor-to-ceiling windows complement each other. Whether it's enjoying tea and conversation or appreciating paintings and calligraphy, one can find the leisure and tranquility that belongs to the Orient here.
Inside the art gallery, traditional ink paintings, vivid oil paintings, and expressive calligraphy works are displayed, creating a simple and tranquil space for visitors. The scenery of the courtyard is quiet and elegant, with antique decorations and surrounding greenery and flowers creating a harmonious blend of nature and humanity!

Colorful Painting Village in Shenzhen
Dafen Oil Painting Village is a hub with tonnes of oil painting studios in the area, so make the most of your time there. I've made a definitive guide for you.📝
Time needed: 🕚
You will need about 3 hours and I will advise you to go in the morning, because they painting workshops start to close during the late afternoon.
How to get there:🚶♂️
Take Metro line 3, get off at Dafen Station, get out from the Exit A, and it's within 5 minutes of walking.🚉
Food:🥗
1. There is a mall next to the village with all kinds of food, from Chinese food to famous franchises.
2. There are also many cafes.
Dafen must see and do, in my opinion:🌟
1. In Dafen Oil Painting Village, there are many workshops in addition to a few tastefully equipped storefronts offering oil paintings and other creative pieces.
These workshops are typically 15 square meters in size, with enormous mounds on the floor and replicas of well-known oil paintings hanging on the walls. (see my photos for reference)
Even if the majority of the paintings are reproductions, they still provide vital revenue streams for local painters from impoverished backgrounds. A few miniature oil paintings make excellent mementos. Paintings that fit in a suitcase range in price from 30 to I don't know rnb🤣, depending on size and quality. You may ask for the frame to be taken down. Bring your negotiating strategies with you.
2.Visit Dafen Art Museum:🎨
There are two large galleries and eight smaller galleries on the first and second floors.
Time: 8:00-18:00
Price: Free
3. Try oil painting: 🖌
Many workshops provide oil painting experiences, and the price is about 50 RNB. If you choose a bigger canvas, the price will be higher.
The proprietor of the workshop will provide you a stack of example drawings, along with all the necessary supplies (canvas, brushes, paints, and palette), and instruction in drawing. Once your oil painting is complete, you can take it home as a souvenir.
4. Make your own portrait: 🖼
Perhaps you would rather have a portait painted. The painter and you can work out a price, and you can pick it up the same day or in a few days

Dafen Oil Painting Village
Dafen Oil Painting Village in Shenzhen, a global oil painting processing place. It is an art village transformed from an ancient Hakka walled village in Shenzhen. While many artists have moved in, many original residents also live here. There are more than 1,200 galleries and stores in Dafen Oil Painting Village, and about 8,000 people engaged in oil painting gather in the village. In 2020, Dafen Oil Painting Village was awarded the honor of 'Shenzhen Characteristic Cultural District'.
You can stroll around the village, and you will see oil paintings everywhere in the narrow and staggered alleys. If you are tired, you can rest in any shop and paint an oil painting by hand to take away. Even if you are a beginner, there are teachers to guide and help! The fee is very affordable, starting from 30!

Painting in an Art Village
So, Dafen may not be first on your list of places to check out while visiting Shenzhen, but if you’re in any way artistically inclined - or would like to try your hand at painting a keepsake for yourself - check it out!
While the area of this little “village” covers only around 0.4km, it still makes for a pleasant stroll, during which you can gaze upon rows and rows of paintings in all different styles.
I stopped by a little shop that had a cafe inside, and found out that I could also take the time to paint there too! I’m no artist, but it was a lot of fun taking the time to try my hand at creating something pretty.
How to get there: Take Metro Line 3 to Dafen Station, then Exit 1A.

As a fashion designer, I naturally like this place. If parents who want to cultivate the children's artistic cells can also take the children to visit here, I believe there will be great gains.
Enter Dafen Oil Painting Village, many children come here to study painting and sketching.
wide and narrow alleys, the painters are everywhere to create serious, people can not bear to bother. Many stores have a "No Photographing" sign, so you can only secretly photograph the appearance for you to see. The pictures below are priced at only a few tens of dollars. It is not expensive, and it is not expensive to buy at home. A kind of life fun.
The whole village is a wholesale market for commodity paintings, and there are all kinds of oil paintings everywhere in the streets. There are various types of oil paintings: landscape paintings, portraits, pop styles, modern styles, decadent gothic styles... some of the merchandise painting materials are also nylon canvases, which reflect different light perceptions at different angles. Amazing.
Most of the houses inside the oil painting village are converted from village houses in the city. The exterior walls are covered with various paintings and graffiti, and there are many small and fresh cafes worthy of staying. Day
