Wonderful hike to Cristo Rei 🗺️
#outdooradventures
Hiking up to the Cristo Rei statue in Madeira was absolutely worth every step! 🏃♂️ Starting from the village of Garajau, the trail takes you through some gorgeous coastal scenery with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean all around. 🌊 The hike itself is moderate, with some steep sections, but the path is well-maintained, and the fresh sea breeze helps keep you cool. As I made my way up, I couldn’t help but stop every few minutes to snap photos – the views of the rugged cliffs and the bright blue water below were simply stunning! 📸
Reaching the top, I was greeted by the impressive Cristo Rei statue standing tall and looking out over the bay. The panoramic views from here are unbeatable, especially with Funchal in the distance and the Desertas Islands on the horizon. The statue itself is free to visit, which is always a bonus! 😊 There’s also a small café nearby where you can grab a coffee or a light snack while taking in the views.
After spending some time at the top, I took the cable car down to Garajau beach for a relaxing break. The beach is a hidden gem with its crystal-clear waters – perfect for a refreshing swim or just lounging in the sun. 🏖️ If you're up for a bit more adventure, consider a quick drive to Ponta de São Lourenço for another incredible hike with different landscapes and more breathtaking views.
This hike to Cristo Rei is a must-do when visiting Madeira. Whether you’re into hiking, photography, or just want to take in the beauty of the island, it’s an experience you won't forget! 🌞

A village on the edge
Madeira is an island with an abundance of beautiful coastal villages but Garajau may be the most stunning of them all. Located on a cliff top above the Atlantic Ocean, the village is famous for its Cristo Rei statue that overlooks the water and can be viewed as a mini version of the Christ the redeemer statue that overlooks Rio.
The walk towards the statue leaves you with stunning coastal views all the way along to the capital Funchal #celebrateit #madeira #statue #cliffs
