The locals will be busy fishing, washing clothes or rinsing their vegetables in the river and you can just meander around the streets and stop for breakfast when you’re ready. Loved this place!

If you are staying in Jiangkou for a night i’d recommend taking a walk down to the park and along the river front. Its peaceful through the day and if you visit at the right time of year (i was there in March) then u’ll get to see lots of different types of tree blossom 🌸 At night time it really picks up and is busy with locals dancing, skipping and playing around. I loved it for a free hour walking around and just absorbing a smaller China town feeling.

We came to climb the mountain just a few days before the Chinese New year holiday and we found that there were not too many people. We stayed near the entrance so that we could just walk to the ticket office once we finished our breakfast. currently the ticket is free if you are Chinese but I had to pay 70 rmb. I think it was half price because of the winter season. we took the cable car up and walked the rest up to the mushroom stone. If you travel in Guizhou this is a must see attraction. However, it's different from the pictures in Google I was fooled by as they are made by drone (2d picture) and you will see it from another perspective 😁 It's still an amazing sight! Loved it😍 The tickets need be purchased 1 day in advance (in our case at least), so you can stay for the night nearby or in Jiangkou (they didn't do nucleic test for foreigners in Fanjingshan in July ) When we went there, it was packed with tourists, so on the way back we decided to go down on foot (99.9% take a cable car up and back). Don't do it without proper shoes and if you are not supersuperhikefan, as most of the way is through woods and not so special apart from a few spots, but your legs may hurt for a few days having made 10k steps down 😁#fanjingshan #guizhou

The Fanjingshan is located in Tongren, Guizhou province and is the highest peak of the Wuling Mountains in southeastern China. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018, it’s a sacred mountain in Chinese Buddhism making it one of the busiest tourists’ attractions in the area. There are two ways to access the park, to walk up you take the West Route and I’ve heard it’s amazing but it’s an extra two hours’ drive from Jiangkou. The South Route (with cable-car) is the most popular route and therefore, it’s really busy. Chinese Nationals can purchase tickets for allotted times as they restrict the number of people going up at any given time. We went at 8am and being foreigners there were still available tickets for us. Be prepared to queue for AGES. You first queue for the buses (10-seater vans as the road are so narrow) to reach the queue for the cable car. We had our tickets by 8:15 (110 park ticket + 140 cable-car) but didn’t get to the top of the mountain until after 10:30…. It was rough. We headed straight to Mushroom Rock and Old Golden Peak. It’s a nice hike up through steep staircases and neat rock cracks and elevation is 2900m. The views of the surrounding valleys are incredible, you just have to ignore the crowds. We visited the Chengen Temple but by the time we got there, the line for the Red Cloud Golden Peak was monstrous and we would have been waiting over 3 hours to go up so – we sadly skipped it. We found a smaller path through a rhododendron forest straight across from the temple and it had glorious views and no one there! It’s a magical place but the waits are very long. The weather was okay, it was cloud cover which was good because it’s fully exposed. The clouds rolled in and limited our visibility at times but we were lucky that every time we got to the peak, the clouds would open up! Lucky us!

Getting There - Train to Tongren station (Guizhou), then a 1.5hr drive to the scenic area. There are drivers waiting around the entrance who will eagerly take you to Fangjingshan. We organised with our hotel in advance for 60rmb per person. Attractions - Gorgeous mountains views. Don’t go on a public holiday. We thought it wouldn’t be as popular as other sites, but it took us 3 hours of lining up to get in. The cable car line up was then an additional 2hr wait, so we opted to hike up instead (so peaceful!) Hotels - stay at the base of the mountain, not in Tongren city as it will take all day to explore the mountain. Food & Restaurants - bring food with you. As part of the Wuling Mountain range in the southwest of China (namely, Guizhou province), Fanjing Mountain is one of the key attractions there. It was named as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2018, and is quite a striking landscape to look at. You've probably seen it pop up when looking at pictures of Guizhou in China. The most striking feature about this mountain is the singular tall spire that extends more than 100 meters above the surrounding mountaintops. At the top of this spire sits two temples that are sepearated by a narrow gorge and connected by a bridge. We had hoped to see this site on a day with clear weather, unfortunately we were out of luck and on the day of our visit it was super misty and raining! But that still didn't deter us from climbing to the top of that spire, even if just to say we had done it. #momentsmission

Mount Fanjing is an amazing art of nature and human beings. Here, you will be surprised by not only those different shapes of Layer-by-layer ancient rocks(the most famous one is mushroom rock, god knows how long it take to form like this), but also those super steep hilltops( 老金顶Ancient Hilltop & 红云金顶Red-cloud Hilltop, both hilltop with ancient temples, wonder how the ancients get to build temple there). From the mountain top, you can also enjoy the valleys, one of my favorite. Visiting Mount Fanjing was a truly surreal experience and I would recommend it to everyone. We got a train from Guiyang to Tongren early in the morning (6am-7.34am) and quickly checked into our hotel. We then got a taxi to the site which took an hour and cost 220rmb. We arrived at 10am and walked to the ticket office. We paid 260rmb for a ticket that included entry, shuttle bus passes and cable car journeys. I would recommend this ticket type as the journey to the top was very long! I would also recommend arriving a lot earlier than we did, we waited about 2 hours to get off the cable cars due to very long queues. The site itself is open from 6am. The mountain itself is absolutely breathtaking. There are multiple temples, peaks and summits to explore as well as the outstanding views. The star of the show has to be the Red Cloud Golden Peak summit which is home to two Buddhist temples with a stone bridge connecting them. The temples are 2336m above sea level, it’s incredible to see! We spent 4 hours exploring the site, it’s a lot of walking and climbing so wear sensible shoes. You are also extremely high up so the weather is much cooler and it rained. I would recommend taking a rain coat and jumper. Once you have completed your trip and reached the car park, you are spoilt for choice with restaurants. It is also very easy to get a taxi back into Tongren. #hiking #naturalwonders #summervacation
