Wan Chai Treasures@Grade 1 Historic Building
The Blue House used to be a two-storey hospital called Hua Tuo Hospital
The hospital closed in 1886 and was used as a temple dedicated to the divine doctor Hua Tuo.
Here had been demolished and rebuilt, so now the number of floors is different, become 4 floors, the ground floor used to be the Hua Tuo Temple, later opened a martial arts hall, medical hall, the first floor had opened specifically for the neighbors to provide volunteer teaching "Mirror Meaning School", and the second floor and third The building is the site of the only English school in Wanchai before the war, Yizhong College. The other shops are, grocery store, winery, Fresh Fish Chamber of Commerce, which also has residential buildings.
The name Blue House is because when the Hong Kong government painted the exterior walls of the Blue House in the 1990s, only the blue paint commonly used by the Water Department was left in the material warehouse, so the entire building was painted blue
It can be said that we have experienced a lot of ups and downs here, but the architecture remains the same. Until 2017, Blue House was awarded the Excellence Award, the highest honor of the Asia Pacific Cultural Heritage Conservation and Protection Award, awarded by the United Nations, making the historic building here internationally recognized and the first time Hong Kong has won an award of its kind.
The blue house still hangs the plaque of the divine doctor Hua Tuo, and the main entrance also has a craft shop, etc., which fits the sense of history here☺️☺️
