400 years ago, there was a citywalk route in West Lake, Hangzhou, which became popular
A few days ago, I flipped through Zhang Dai's from the late Ming Dynasty.
400 years ago, this elderly man from the Ming Dynasty who wrote the famous piece 'Watching Snow in the Lake Heart Pavilion' for West Lake, left Hangzhou to avoid war and hid in the mountains. He wrote down 72 events in when he recalled the beautiful scenery of West Lake in the past.
We have connected the points of the 72 events that still have relics today to form a detailed and touching West Lake CityWalk route.
Today, I slightly organized and revised the points on the South Road of West Lake, and walked two classic walking routes. If you want to replicate it, remember to save it.
The South Road of West Lake, including Nanshan Road, the west side of West Lake, and Manjuelong, etc. In order not to walk back, I divided it into two lines, and the route map is in the last two pictures:
Route one
Cuo Ci Zen Temple/Leifeng Tower - Taizi Bay (Jiuyao Nine) - Bathing Bay - Santai Mountain Road - Yu Qian - Gao Huiyin Lishi Temple - Faxiang Temple (Tangzhang) - Nangao Peak (Chuangwang Pavilion) - Wumen Cave Stone Cave/Thousand Man Cave - Yanxia Cave - Shuile Cave - Lower Manjuelong - Stone House Cave
This line is about 7-8km in total, with a maximum climb of over 200 meters. I started at 11 o'clock in the morning, took pictures all the way, and ended around 5 o'clock in the afternoon to take a taxi home.
Route two:
Cixi Zen Temple/Leifeng Tower - Taizi Bay (Jiuyao Nine) - Bathing Treasure Bay
Santai Mountain Road - Yu Qian - Gao Huiyin Lishi Temple - Santai Pavilion - Tea Museum - Longjing Village - Feng Cuan Ridge - Pian Yun - Jiu Xi Eighteen Rooms - Jiu Xi Yan Shu
This route is 8km+ in total, with a maximum climb of over 100 meters. It takes about the same time as route one, and it can be completed in half a day. Finally, you can walk to Jiu Xi bus station. If you have extra energy, you can also walk along the Qiantang River. Finally, I walked 12km that day.
Starting from Jingci Zen Temple on Nanshan Road, Taizi Bay, Bathing Pigeon Bay, Santai Pavilion, Tea Expo, and cliff carvings are all specially added by me. The second half of the route is all in the mountains of West Lake.
