#travelhacks
Bamburgh Castle is a majestic fortress overlooking the windswept beaches of Northumberland’s coast. Its history spans over 1,400 years, making it one of the most storied castles in England. Despite its grandeur, Bamburgh remains relatively uncrowded, especially compared to other famous castles like Windsor or Edinburgh.
The castle’s interior features fascinating exhibits, including medieval weapons, royal artifacts, and the iconic King’s Hall with its stunning timber ceiling. However, the real highlight is the panoramic view of the North Sea and the Farne Islands from the castle grounds.
For travelers on a budget, visiting during the offseason ensures cheaper entry fees and fewer crowds. Solo visitors can enjoy the peacefulness of the vast beaches surrounding the castle. A stroll along the Bamburgh Beach during sunrise or sunset is a magical experience, with the castle illuminated in warm hues against the backdrop of crashing waves.
The nearby village of Bamburgh offers cozy pubs and cafes for a post-exploration treat. Staying overnight in the area allows you to explore other nearby attractions, like Holy Island and Alnwick Castle, at a leisurely pace. Bamburgh Castle combines history, nature, and tranquility, making it a perfect hidden gem for a solo getaway.

Family road trip to Bamburgh Castle
- the castle is absolutely gorgeous and stunning views of the ocean around
- the wind is too strong on that day, so I didn’t get to enter the castle because of the safety problems
- the staff is very kind and friendly as he didn’t make us pay for the parking lot because we couldn’t enter the castle. We can just take pictures in front of the castle
