Amazing Road Trip to Aokigahara Forest 🚙
#roadtrips
We recently embarked on an unforgettable road trip to Aokigahara Forest, also known as the Sea of Trees. This mystical forest, located at the base of Mount Fuji, is renowned for its lush greenery, unique rock formations, and tranquil atmosphere.
We chose to rent a car because it can be quite challenging to get there by public transport. This way, we also had the opportunity to explore the four caves located in the area, which would have been difficult to visit otherwise.
‼️Aokigahara is easily accessible by car, with ample parking available near the entrance.

Aokigahara: The “Cursed” Forest of Japan 🌳
#forest
Aokigahara, also known as the Sea of Trees, is infamous not only for its dense beauty but also for its dark reputation as the "cursed" forest of Japan. Nestled at the northwest base of Mount Fuji, this sprawling forest is shrouded in mystery, folklore, and tragedy. Over time, it has earned a reputation for being haunted, with stories of lost spirits, or yūrei, wandering through the forest’s shadowy depths.
The thick canopy and jagged volcanic landscape contribute to the eerie stillness of Aokigahara. While the forest is rich with natural beauty, featuring ancient trees, lava caves, and a unique ecosystem, it is also linked to more tragic associations, amplifying its "cursed" status.

📍Jukai (Sea of Forest) Nature Trail, Aokigahara Forest
The Jukai Nature Trail in Aokigahara, or the "Sea of Trees," offers a mystical and serene hike through one of Japan's most iconic and mysterious forests, formed from ancient lava flows near Mount Fuji.
Tips for Visiting:
▪️Stay on the Trail: There are many hidden caves in the forest, and it’s easy to fall into one if you stray off the path. It’s strongly recommended to stick to the marked trails for your safety.
▪️Bear Safety: Bears are known to live in the area, so carrying a bell or renting one from a nearby village is advised to make noise and prevent surprise encounters.
▪️Limited Cell Signal: Be prepared for no cell service—download maps or bring a GPS.
▪️No Night Hiking: The forest is incredibly dark at night, so avoid hiking after sunset to prevent getting lost.
‼️Start from Saiko Bat Cave: The easiest way to reach the heart of the forest is by starting at Saiko Bat Cave and following routes 9 and 10.
