Dating back to the Hellenistic period, this ancient theater was built in the 1st century BC and served as an important social and cultural center for the city of Antiphellos, which was part of the Lycian League. Architecture and Structure The theater is carved out of natural stone and overlooks the stunning turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea. It has 26 rows of seating and could accommodate approximately 4,000 spectators. The design reflects the typical Greek style, with a semi-circular seating arrangement and a panoramic view that enhances the overall experience. Historical Importance Antiphellos was a significant Lycian city, and the theater played a key role in hosting gatherings, performances, and festivals. Unlike many other ancient theaters, this one is unique because of its sea-facing orientation, offering visitors a breathtaking sunset view. It's one of Turkey's best-preserved ancient theaters. Originally built during the Greek period, it was later expanded and renovated during Roman times. 🌇 Highly recommend visiting this ancient theater at sunset. It's about a 15-minute walk from the town center—very close! The scenery along the way is stunning, with plenty of picturesque spots to stop and take photos 📸. 🔜 Walk towards the theater, and about 50 meters in, you'll spot bougainvillea—perfect for photos. 🔜 Head down the stairs to reach the 🌊 crystal-clear seaside. 🔜 Keep walking uphill to reach the ancient theater. Climb to the top steps for a panoramic view of the sea and harbor. In the evening, there are often musical performances here. As the sun sets, the Mediterranean glimmers with golden light, and free-spirited singers strum their guitars 🎸, singing Turkish folk songs. In that moment, time seems to pause in a golden glow, and your heart feels gently illuminated.

Phellos are known for their art, architecture and their ability to succeed in trade and war. Come to the town of Kaş (ancient name is Antiphellos) which is 2,5 hours drive from Antalya. Get to the ancient theatre and start your hiking route towards Phellos ancient city through the village of Chukurbag. Follow the signs and reach the mosque from where you can climb up to Phellos ruins. See the tombs and the monuments. There is a cow carving on the one of the ancient monuments.
