| Shakespeare's hometown. The footsteps of literary giants | Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's hometown, is a charming medieval town in the West Midlands of England. It is the birthplace of the famous 16th-century playwright William Shakespeare and one of the world's seven great romantic destinations. Today, this historic town is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the UK. When William was three years old, his father, John, became mayor of Stratford. At that time, John Shakespeare was wealthy enough to buy two adjacent houses and convert them into one. The house on Henley Street, now known as the "Birthplace," is where William Shakespeare was born and raised. Shakespeare was supposed to attend the local King Edward VI Grammar School, which has remained unchanged to this day, located at the corner of Church Street and Church Lane. In November 1582, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway. Her home, now known as "Anne Hathaway's Cottage," is located in Shottery, one mile from Stratford. The cottage is surrounded by idyllic countryside, the childhood home of Shakespeare's wife, where you can learn about her love story with William Shakespeare. However, there are two versions of their story. In one version, Shakespeare and Hathaway's marriage was quite surprising in the town of Stratford. Shakespeare's father was a successful businessman (a glove maker, leather and hide merchant) and a local politician. He served as a councilor, alderman, and mayor of Stratford. Shakespeare was well-educated, and it was believed that he would marry a girl from a wealthy family. Anne Hathaway was the daughter of an ordinary family. She was eight years older than Shakespeare and pregnant at the time of their marriage. Their first child, Susanna, was born six months after the wedding. The wedding was hastily arranged, and no marriage banns were published. Shakespeare left many classic quotes through the characters in his plays: 1. A person who thinks too much will lose the joy of life. 2. No matter how long the night, the day will always come. 3. All past events are prologues. 4. On the clock of time, there are only two words: now. 5. Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none. 6. Appropriate sorrow can express genuine feelings, but excessive grief can prove a lack of wisdom.

#uktrip A day in Stratford-upon-Avon was a delightful experience! 🎭 I started with a visit to Shakespeare's Birthplace, where the entrance fee was about £20. The house itself is a charming window into the Bard's early life, and the guided tour was full of intriguing details about his upbringing. Strolling through the picturesque streets, I next explored the beautiful Anne Hathaway's Cottage, a short walk away, which cost around £15. The thatched-roof cottage and its stunning gardens were truly enchanting 🌸. Lunch at a quaint café on Henley Street was a perfect pause, and I enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea ☕. Later, I took a leisurely walk along the River Avon and caught a performance at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, an absolute must if you’re a fan of theatre 🎭.
