However, due to the large number of tourists, to fully appreciate and photograph, we chose to visit over two days, and there was still plenty of time. ✨Shah-i-Zinda necropolis: This is a must-visit in Samarkand, 🐴 especially the stunning Avenue of Mausoleums. Although it only takes 20 minutes to stroll around, finding the perfect photo spot might require some waiting. It was so shocking that there could be such beautiful architecture in the world. 📸If you have time, it is recommended to stay in Samarkand for at least two days! After traveling thousands of kilometers to get here, how can you just take a glance and leave? At least feel the charm of this dazzling city and wander in the blue ocean of buildings. · 📩Samarkand Day Tour Itinerary: 💌Guri Amir - Bibi-Khanym Mosque - Hazrat Khizr Mosque - Shah-i-Zinda - Afrasiyab Settlement - Registan · 🔸Guri-Emil Mausoleum: Admission fee 30,000 soms. Gur Amir is about a 15-minute walk from Registan Square. The use of blue is subtle, and since it's not too large, you can take your time exploring. I went just before lunchtime, so it wasn't crowded and there weren't many tourists. Beneath the blue dome in the back is a golden mausoleum, which is also very beautiful. Looking at the whole thing from above, it certainly does resemble the Taj Mahal... There are plenty of benches, so it's recommended for those who want to relax and enjoy the Samarkand blue! #TravelItinerary Samarkand, Uzbekistan, is a relatively large city, but its tourist attractions are concentrated in a single location, so exploring on foot is recommended! The road where Bibi-Khanym Mosque is located is particularly closed to vehicles :) Registan - Bibi-Khanym Mosque - Siyob Bazaar - Gur Amir - Shah-i-Zinda - Registan Laser Show (8 or 9 AM) 1. Registan is a large city with many attractions, so we recommend visiting in the morning or as a starting point for your trip. Many accommodations are recommended, so many are close to their accommodations and there are many restaurants nearby, making it easy to move on to your next destination after lunch. 2. Bibi-Khanym Mosque is a must-see if you're traveling from Registan to Shah-i-Zinda! While not a must-see, it was built for a queen, much like the Taj Mahal in India. Admission is quite expensive for its size, so I can't recommend it, but if you're interested, I highly recommend a visit. 3. Siaab Bazaar is Samarkand's market. While it's become a bit more touristy, with many stalls selling tourist goods, it's still popular with locals. I bought some snacks here to share with friends! Nuts like pistachios and almonds are popular, so check them out. 4. Gur Amir is a free tomb, and its elevated location offers a panoramic view of Samarkand. 5. Shah-i-Zinda is the royal cemetery. You'll see many other tombs along the way. It's said that people in ancient times built their own tombs around the tombs of royal families, believing they were blessed with good fortune. The interior is lavishly decorated, befitting a royal tomb, making it a fun place to visit. 6. Finally, return to Registan to watch the nighttime light show! During my stay, the opening times were different at 8:00, 8:30, and 9:00, so I was not sure about the exact opening times. However, since I often pass by Registan on my way there and back, I sat down for a while and looked around.

This city is an architectural dream. Go get lost at all the magnificent Persian sites and take all the photos you can. Get some silk or cotton fabrics. It’s beautiful. But be careful in summer it can get very hot.

Other notable landmarks include the Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis and the Bibi-Khanym Mosque. 2️⃣ Cultural Experiences and Local Life Immerse yourself in the traditions and culture of Samarkand’s people with a visit to the Siab Bazaar. This is a vibrant local market great for snacks, souvenirs, and local spices and dried fruit. When you’re done shopping, stroll through the Jewish Quarter to explore Jewish history and quiet backstreets. End your day with a silk paper workshop to see traditional paper made from mulberry bark. 3️⃣ Scenic Views As the sun sets, enjoy panoramic views of Registan Square from a rooftop cafe. At night, the square lights up and often hosts light shows and cultural performances, bringing the ancient city to life. The Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis also offers breathtaking views of the nearby Bibi-Khanym Mosque at sunset. 🏨 Where to Stay: Hotel Grand Marakand is a family-run hotel about a 15 minute walk from Registan Square. Practical Tips for Independent Travelers - Tickets.. buy at entrance gates (cash/USD accepted; cards sometimes fail). - Dress Code.. modest attire for mosques/mausoleums (shoulders/knees covered; scarves for women). - Timing.. visit Registan at sunrise or sunset for magical lighting and fewer tourists. There’s also a light show every night at 9 PM, lasting around 20 minutes. - Transport.. walk between Registan, Bibi-Khanym, and Shakhi-Zinda (all within 1.5 km). In late July 2025, I traveled along the route Istanbul-Samarkand-Xi'an. During the afternoons, temperatures exceeded 40°C, resulting in fewer tourists. Even on Sundays, there were no lines at ticket counters, allowing for a relaxed visit. The attractions I visited included Registan Square, Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum, and Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis. Since these sites are concentrated in the city center, it’s possible to cover them in a single night’s stay if you’re determined, but having two nights is more comfortable. Due to the extreme heat, I stayed indoors at the hotel during the afternoons, but even with just the mornings, there was plenty of time to explore. Below is some information primarily aimed at Japanese travelers: [Communication] SIM cards are essential as many services are incompatible. To use airport Wi-Fi, you need to make a call to a designated number, so it’s best to prepare in advance to avoid stress. I had the most popular eSIM from Trip.com, but it failed to activate for some reason. To be safe, consider preparing two options and canceling one if unnecessary. [Transportation] Most trips cost around 300-400 yen, so taxis are the main mode of transport. Since only minor ride-hailing apps are available, it’s better to set them up in Japan beforehand. [Payment] Supermarkets and tourist attractions accept card payments. However, small shops often only take cash or offer cash discounts, so it’s good to carry a small amount. 290,000 Uzbekistani Som was sufficient. [Clothing] July’s sunlight is extremely strong. Wearing short sleeves and shorts can actually feel hotter, and since you’ll be entering mosques anyway, long sleeves and pants are recommended. A parasol was incredibly useful.
