The Adalaj Stepwell, an ancient well over 500 years old
#tripแจกโรงแรมฟรี Adalaj Stepwell was built in 1498 by the Hindu king Rana Veer Singh to alleviate the water shortage problem of the people. But before the well was completed, the king fought a war with the Muslim king Mehmud Begada. The Hindu king died in the battlefield. The Muslim king fell in love with Rudabai, a Hindu widow.
Rana Rudabai agreed to marry King Mehmud Begada on the condition that the well be completed. When the well was completed, the Rani committed suicide. Therefore, the well that was completed has a mixture of Hindu and Islamic art.
Adalaj Stepwell is a hexagonal well made of sandstone. It is 5 levels deep underground. It was used as a resting place and a well for villagers and many caravans. Because it is part of the trade route between China and Afghanistan in the past, wells like this were built at intervals along the way through the arid region.
The highlight of this well is the three-tiered entrance that gradually descends to the well below. Each level of the well is decorated with carvings in both Hindu and Islamic styles, blending different beliefs perfectly. As for the top of the well There will be openings to let in sunlight, allowing air to circulate easily. The deeper you go, the cooler the air inside becomes than outside.
