Youkeng Historic Trail is located between Sandiaoling Station and Dahua Station on the Pingxi Line. It is a sparsely populated hiking trail with green paths, small bridges and flowing water. It has been the connecting road between Yuliaozai and Youkeng since the Qing Dynasty. After getting off at Sandiaoling Station, walk along the stream to the trailhead. The trail is a muddy path with unclear signs along the way. You will pass through tunnels along the way. You can choose to walk through one tunnel after another in the dark, or continue along the ancient trail. The tunnel is a faster way to reach Youkeng Waterfall. You need to go through at least 5 to 6 tunnels. The train passes through every 20 to 30 minutes. You often see sky lanterns in guidebooks. I tried it and it was more fun than I expected. When I arrived at Shifen Station, there were many shops selling sky lanterns around, so I bought one in my favorite color. Write your wish on a small balloon-like sky lantern, light a fire under the lantern, and just like a balloon, you send it up into the sky with the updrafts generated by the heat! The shop staff took lots of photos with their smartphones right before the lantern was launched, which was also fun. They spoke many languages, so they even gave me instructions on how to pose in simple Japanese. It's hot in Taiwan in midsummer. The weather in Pingxi District can change suddenly, and on this day it unexpectedly turned to rain. At such a time, I ran into this coffee shop to take shelter from the rain. I was guided to two open seats. [Span, Taiwan, the filming location of the movie 'The Girl We Loved Back Then'🛤] I went to Span last winter on a day tour in Taiwan◡̈⃝ Span is also very famous as the filming location of the movie 'The Girl We Loved Back Then'! These are the things you must do when you go to Span, Taiwan!! 1. Flying lanterns 2. Eating fried chicken wings 🙂 There are many stores that allow you to fly lanterns, so it would be a good idea to find out in advance! (Because Spunlaoji itself is incredibly crowded and crazy, make sure to check in advance!) The lanterns have different wishes for each color. The red lanterns are for health, the peach lanterns are for love, etc. They will tell you everything when you choose the lantern. (You can choose a lantern with one color or four colors! When I went with my mother, I chose red, and when I went with my friends, I chose four colors and made wishes for each color❤️-The price of four colors is more expensive than one color!) After you write all your wishes on the lanterns, you can wait and let them fly. If you give your phone to the staff, they will take both a video and a picture👍🏻 Sometimes a train passes by on the railroad, so I recommend everyone to watch it! Cat-themed footbridges, cafes, and souvenir shops are scattered throughout the area. It's a particularly recommended spot for cat lovers to relax. Local volunteers provide cat litter boxes and rescue and neuter cats. The recommended stay is 2-3 hours. If you don't like crowds, I highly recommend visiting them. Shifen and Jiufen are both beautiful, but they're so crowded that it's difficult to get around and explore every nook and cranny. However, there are very few tourists here, making it a great place to lose yourself in the beautiful scenery. You can also release sky lanterns in Jingtong and Pingxi, and both places have lots of cute souvenirs like keychains! Pingxi greeted me with a peaceful vibe. I strolled through the old streets, surrounded by quaint shops and food stalls, and admired the rows of hanging bamboo wishes. Writing my own wish and hanging it felt so magical! Next, Jingtong was like stepping into history. The well-preserved station had vintage charm, and the Lover Bridge nearby offered stunning views of the lush greenery. The sound of the train chugging along the tracks made everything feel so nostalgic. The highlight? Watching the iconic sky lanterns float into the overcast sky, carrying hopes and dreams into the heavens. Even in the light drizzle, the atmosphere was warm and filled with joy. If you’re in Taiwan, this journey on the Pingxi Railway Line is a must for culture and nature lovers alike. It’s a perfect mix of tradition and scenic beauty.
