Fewer crowds and beautiful scenery! Meet the low-key town of Perast, where mountains and sea meet
At the beginning of the universe, the most beautiful encounter between land and sea must have been on the coast of Montenegro - as described by the British Romantic poet Byron, it seems to reveal the magic and wonder of nature in Montenegro. Perast is a small town located on the Kotor Bay in Montenegro. Despite its small size, the town boasts 16 churches and 17 palaces of various sizes. The European-style buildings are built on the mountains, facing the azure sea. The encounter between land and sea has earned it the reputation of being the most beautiful ancient town between mountains and sea.
🚶Attractions to visit in Perast:
⛪️St. Nicholas Church and Bell Tower:
⛪️St. Nicholas Church was built in 1616, and next to it is the Perast Bell Tower. The 55-meter-high Perast Bell Tower is connected to St. Nicholas Church, offering magnificent views of Perast and the Bay of Kotor.
🏝Two islands in the lake:
🏝Our Lady of the Rocks Island is an artificial island formed by piling stones and shipwrecks, with a history of nearly 400 years. The island features a Roman Catholic church (now a museum) and a beacon. The church houses 68 murals, which are quite spectacular. From the Perast pier, you can take a speedboat to the island for just a few euros.
🏝Island of St. George is a private estate that can only be viewed from a boat.
🏫Zmajević Palace: Located on a hill at the northwest end of the town, the church itself is closed, but its most prominent feature is its tall octagonal bell tower, one of the tallest buildings in Perast.

Kotor, Montenegro
#travelhacks Tucked away along the Adriatic coast, Kotor is a stunning destination known for its medieval charm and breathtaking natural beauty. A budget-friendly alternative to Dubrovnik, Kotor offers a mix of history, culture, and scenery without the hefty price tag.
The heart of Kotor is its Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with cobblestone streets, historic churches, and lively squares. You can spend hours wandering here for free, soaking in the atmosphere and admiring the architecture. A major highlight is the hike to Kotor Fortress, which offers panoramic views of the bay. While there’s a small entrance fee, it’s one of the most affordable activities that provides incredible value. A #TravelHack is to climb early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat and enjoy fewer crowds.
Another affordable activity is a boat trip around the Bay of Kotor, where you can explore nearby gems like Perast or Our Lady of the Rocks. If you’re traveling on a budget, consider staying in guesthouses or apartments, which are significantly cheaper than hotels. Dining out is also relatively affordable compared to other European coastal destinations, with many restaurants offering local seafood dishes at reasonable prices.
Kotor’s charm lies in its balance of affordability and experience. Whether you’re enjoying a scenic hike, taking in the bay’s beauty, or exploring its historic streets, Kotor delivers unforgettable moments for travelers who want to make the most of their budget. With its welcoming atmosphere and numerous low-cost activities, it’s no surprise that Kotor is a favorite among #TravelHacks enthusiasts.

Kotor's Nearby Our Lady of the Rocks: Free VIP Lounge Access from the UK, Island Full of Historic Buildings!
Near Kotor in Montenegro, there's a very famous attraction: Our Lady of the Rocks. Here, you'll find a museum and a church (Church of Gospa od Skrpjela). These iconic buildings can be seen from afar in Kotor! It's just a 20-minute boat ride from Kotor, and the buildings are unique and full of Montenegro's distinctive charm. The church with the blue dome is especially notable! The island also features marble altars, historically used by sailors to pray for safe journeys.
Although it's a very small island, I personally find the buildings on it very interesting and definitely worth a visit!

The picturesque town of Perast
Perast is a coastal town located on the northern shore of the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. Although the town is small in size, it boasts 16 churches and 17 palaces of various sizes. The town is built facing the sea, with a winding path along the coast. Waves occasionally crash against the roadside, where tourists and vehicles coexist harmoniously. The time spent in this town is the most tranquil moment of this trip.
Perast has two unique islands, known as the 'Twin Islands of the Lake.' One of the islands is called Our Lady of the Rocks, meaning the Madonna on the Reef or the Madonna on the Rock. Visitors can take a speedboat to the island for a tour. According to legend, in the 15th century, a miraculous Madonna statue was discovered on the reef, prompting the people of Perast to decide to build a church there. They began piling stones and shipwreck fragments to create this man-made island. The European-style church with its light blue roof, situated between the mountains and the sea, is breathtakingly beautiful. It is said to protect fishermen on their voyages. The other island is called St. George Island. This is a natural island, currently a private island, and is not open to the public.

Perast, Montenegro, is nestled along the stunning Bay of Kotor, offering breathtaking views of deep, azure waters reflecting the surrounding rugged mountains. The town itself is a picturesque collection of well-preserved Baroque architecture, with charming stone buildings, palaces, and churches lining its narrow streets. The serene waterfront is dotted with quaint cafes and restaurants, providing idyllic spots to soak in the beauty. Nearby, the iconic islands of Our Lady of the Rocks and Saint George add to the enchanting landscape, making Perast a perfect blend of natural splendor and historical charm.
The Virgin of the Rock
Visiting the Virgin of the Rock was a truly astonishing experience. The natural beauty of the island and the stunning 17th-century Baroque church were breathtaking. A meeting of history and art with a unique charm.
From the outside, the temple offers a view of the beautiful blue sea of Kotor Bay. The landscape surrounding the temple was amazing.
The paintings and statues attached inside the church remind us of the depth of tradition and faith. My visit was an unforgettable spiritual experience.

Cultural Landmarks of the Republic of Montenegro| Our Lady of the Rocks (1365)
|Our Lady of the Rocks (1365). The Our Lady of the Rocks in Kotor, Montenegro, originally a rock in the sea, is expanded every year on July 22nd by local residents who throw rocks into the sea from their fishing boats, gradually forming a rock fortress. The tradition of throwing rocks into the sea is still ongoing. In 1632, a Roman Catholic church was established on the island, building a church of Our Lady, which is said to protect fishermen when they go out to sea.
I toured the most beautiful small town in Europe in just one hour, a place with a permanent population of 300 but 16 churches
I only needed an hour to explore this not-so-large coastal town. In terms of size, Perast in our country might only be considered a slightly larger village. 17th-century churches, museums, beautiful palaces, and local courtyards line up along the coastal avenue, filling this place with a classical art atmosphere with a touch of Italian flavor. It's hard to imagine that in this small town with only 300 permanent residents, there are 17 palaces and 16 churches, quite incredible. The highest point of the town is the bell tower located in the central square, belonging to the St. Nicholas Church with a history of five to six hundred years. The nearly 50 cm height gives a sense of standing out from the crowd, and you can climb up this bell tower, the view is very great. I had my last dinner under the afterglow of the setting sun, and this cruise trip is also coming to an end. There is some reluctance, but isn't life always about 'parting'? This trip has still brought me some gains, I'm grateful.
Most beautiful town in Kotor Bay🌊

📌Perast, Montenegro, Balkan country
📍Bay of Kotor
This is a small, quiet town with a population of less than 400 where you can escape Montenegro's busier seaside resorts such as Kotor Bay and Budva.
Taking a walk along the Perast is one of the best things to do, but if you take a boat tour instead, you will enjoy more of the iconic bay views.
The top attractions to visit in Perast are: Our Lady of the Rocks; St. Nikola Church; Palace Zmajevic; and Perast Museum.
In summer, this tiny place is very busy and has a handful of accommodations, although it is better to book the hotel room in advance.
Perast is also known as the cradle of many legends, historical sites, and the Mediterranean spirit.

The Republic of Montenegro, a small country that is very inconspicuous in Europe, has become a back garden for Europeans because of its beautiful scenery and low prices.
There are many black mountain roads, but there is a saying called infinite scenery in the dangerous peak. On the way we walked along the mountain road, we had a lot of beautiful scenery.

Perast Parish, the old town next to Kotor in Montenegro, can be reached by car in about half an hour. There is someone on the road to Perast, and there is a parking lot at the door, which is very convenient.
In order to find the most beautiful shooting angle, I followed the predecessor's Raiders to the bell tower that is said to be full of bird droppings, but it has not allowed visitors to enter. Even if we are holding the smell of bird droppings, we must look at the ancient city. Looking for a stone step all the way up, we can find a relatively good position on the roof that looks like a residential building. The advantage is that the clock tower is also included, and finally the old city is photographed. The most beautiful scenery.
