Pak Beng Market, as one might guess, does not have much in the way of retail. However, if you want to get some food before taking the boat to either Luang Prabang or Huay Xai, you should check out the local market stalls along the main road. Crispy local baguettes loaded with a variety of fillings such as omelets or cheese are available here, and will keep you going on the long boat ride. #favouriteitinerary Laos used to be known as ‘land of a million elephants’ but the wars and bombs scared the elephants away and the loss of natural habitat have left only about 700 elephants in the country. We spent a memorable morning at the Mekong Elephant Park that included a beautiful hike through the jungle with 3 elephants and watching them bath in the Mekong river. The park is a sanctuary that aims to protect the Asian elephants in a beautiful, clean environment with excellent facilities in harmony with the environment. The guides taught us about the elephants in English and French and we ended the visit with a delicious Laotian lunch. A real highlight of our trip to Southeast Asia!

#TripPahLuy This trip takes you to Laos but starts at Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai - Cross the Mekong River at Chiang Khong, buy a bus ticket from Chiang Khong to Bokeo to board a boat at Bokeo in Laos. Most tourists are foreigners, 90% of whom buy a long ticket from Bokeo to Luang Prabang, but we only went halfway because the passenger boat stopped overnight at Pakbeng Udomxay, Laos, around 5 pm. Stayed for 1 night and in the morning got on a boat to continue to Luang Prabang. - We bought a ticket to Pakbeng, there are quite a few resorts there, with prices ranging from a bit far, starting at around 500. We went around November, the weather was quite cold in the morning, there was fog, the Pakbeng River flowed into the Mekong River, children went to play in the water, find food to cook like 70 years ago in Thailand. - Simple local food, nothing special, luxurious, like a rural atmosphere, there is also a van service, but the road is quite difficult. #Continue to Luang Prabang - Wake up early to wait for the boat before 8:30 am. The boat that docked from Chiang Khong yesterday evening was already waiting. The tourists who came yesterday were ready to board the boat. We bought tickets on the boat and got on. It took about 6-8 hours to reach Luang Prabang. However, along the way, there was a new dam being built across the Mekong River, so we felt that the Mekong River trip would be affected by this dam construction. - Arrived in Luang Prabang in the evening. Get off the pier and there is a service point for a songthaew into the city for about 20 minutes, about 100 baht per person. Most of them will drop you off at your hotel or if you don't have a place to stay, they will drop you off at the night market (Kad Muad), a famous tourist attraction of the hospital. The shopping spot is growing very fast. There are a lot of tourists. There are old temples surrounding the city and a river surrounding the city. - On the way back, it is convenient to fly back, not far from the accommodation.

#TravelLaos Traveling to Luang Prabang by slow boat is another fun route. But this time we chose to take a slow boat to Pakbeng, which is a halfway stop between Huay Xai and Luang Prabang. You can buy a ticket on the day of travel. The ticket office is in the building at the pier. Sales start at 8:00 AM. The fare is 150,000 kip. The boat leaves once a day at 11:30 AM. It takes about 6 hours. When the boat leaves and there are not enough seats, we can sit at the back of the boat where there are no passengers. At the back of the boat, there is a place selling snacks and drinks. There are also cup noodles. Next to it, there is a bathroom. The view on both sides of the road is very beautiful. It is a good route that you must visit at least once. When you arrive at Pakbeng, you will get to see the sunset. At the pier, someone from the accommodation will come to pick you up and take you to stay. We traveled alone. Staying alone is 400 baht per night. Breakfast and lunch on the boat is another 120 baht.
