Owase City in Mie Prefecture is famous for the Kumano Kodo trail. However, in recent years, a hidden area called "Ohai" on the cliffs of Kuki Town has been gaining popularity. The word "Ohai" is pronounced "Ohai", and it is a corner of the columnar jointed ria coast facing the Kumano Nada Sea. The highly transparent "Ohai Blue" seen at Ohai Coast is now quietly becoming very popular. However, it is quite difficult to get there. From the Kuki fishing port where the climb starts, you go through a maze-like village, cross the mountain, and it is 4.5km one way, taking about an hour and a half. Thanks to the volunteers in the village, the road has been well maintained, but the pink tape that serves as a marker in places has deteriorated and become difficult to see, and there were many places where it was easy to get lost (I actually got lost and turned back). It is reassuring to have a mountain climbing app such as YAMAP. The hiking trail through the virgin forest is at an elementary level, but there are quite a few ups and downs, and The wind was worse than I expected, and I sweated like crazy. There were many places with poor footing, and the last rocky area was steep and slippery. Don't underestimate it, and it's better to go with proper mountain climbing equipment. The place where you can see Ohai is a cliff at the inlet. The standard photo spot where you can sit and take photos is quite thrilling, or rather risky, as the road is narrow. If you're afraid of heights, the rocks leading to Ohai might be dangerous. The sea breeze is strong and it's easy to lose your balance, so be careful not to slip off. By the way, in Ohai, there is a waterfall fed by spring water from the mountains, and you can take a quick bath in the pool or in the waterfall that runs down the rocks. The water temperature is just right, and it feels great after sweating from the waterfall. Light and quick check-in itinerary: Starting from your arrival at JR Kii-Katsuura Station, take a bus to the final stop - Nachi Mountain, check in at the waterfall, climb up the mountain, visit the Grand Shrine, and then walk from the bus terminal to another direction's parking lot (there are signs on site) to connect a short section of the Kumano Kodo, hike down the mountain, experience the pilgrimage route, and in about 1 hour you will reach Daimon-ban, continue walking forward and you will find a bus stop, then take a bus back to JR Kii-Katsuura. You can stay overnight or wait for a bus to your next destination, the whole journey takes about 4 hours. If you are staying overnight in the surrounding cities and do not want to change hotels, you can start your journey from JR Kii-Katsuura Station. If you plan to stay overnight in Kii-Katsuura, it is recommended to stay at the Urashima Hotel, where from the rooftop outdoor area of the mountain pavilion of the hotel, you can even gaze at the Nachi Falls (the last picture), and with a good camera, you can capture it, then plan to visit the eastern side of the town's sea ⛩️ - Benten Island (located at 2 o'clock direction from the map's JR Kii-Katsuura Station) and that's pretty much it~ All the eateries are around the JR station.
